two full days of zoomies?

hi all,

henry has had the zoomies all weekend, pretty much non-stop.  we went to the park for a few hours this morning, and he came home and passed out.  and as soon as he woke up, he started tear-azzing around the house, ripping things out of the garbage can, running in circles, and barking.

the barking is new.  he has NEVER barked up until now, except for once when we were working on separation anxiety issues, and he was barking in his crate.

it's worth mentioning that he has been farting a bit today, and had a mushy poop this morning.  this is also something that we have not seen since we first got him; it seems he has an excitable digestive tract, and when he is excited/nervous, his bowels react accordingly.

suggestions?  diagnoses?  i'm at a loss, and i'm honestly starting to worry about him.

  • I don't think extra energy is anything to be worried about. I mean, unless you're worried for the safety of your stuff and you sanity, lol!

It sounds more like he's in need of mental stimulation on top of the couple of hours at the park he got. He's probably just bored and going nuts in hopes of entertaining himself on his own.

The mushy poo might be from all the crazy running around; also might be if you've had warmer weather than usual? He might have gotten overheated at some point, maybe? Otherwise, I'd just say it's all the insane running around. As for the gas; Zoey had insanely toxic gas yesterday, but I know it's because we were out at the park for a charity walk, she was very excited by all the people and a few other dogs around, and she definitely managed to snag a few things off the ground that aren't typically in her diet (hot dog, pretzel, bagel)!

Don't worry about the pup; he's probably just fine considering all the extra energy he's got!

  • Thanks!  Right after I typed that message, we played with his ball a bit, practicing the drop it command, which he is terrible at!  Then, he passed out and pretty much stayed calm all night!

His allergies are definitely bothering, and he is super itchy, so I think that may be playing into it too.
