Flea Prevention for Dogs?

What type of flea prevention do you use? Frontline, Revolution, K9 Avantix...something else? We had a very bad flea infestation last summer (actually in area it was like epidemic almost every person I knew with a dog got fleas). I don't want to deal with it again. I never really had our dog on anything bc we lived in apartment. Now we have a large back yard for her to run and play in, so I really want something effective. TIA.

Re: Flea Prevention for Dogs?

  • I'm planning to switch Zoey to Trifexis very soon. We've been using the K9 Advantix II, and I'm not at all happy with it. It's supposed to repel and kill all life stages of fleas, but without fail I've managed to find a flea or two on her within a few weeks of applying, meaning it's NOT working for the entire month like it's supposed to. I'm not dealing with flea issues all summer, when the winter did nothing to kill them off; I just know they're going to be a nightmare.

SO, Trifexis for Zoey will cover flea prevention and heartworms (it's a combo pill; if you JUST want the flea preventive, Comfortis is the flea component of Trifexis). I have Neem spray, too, which I think will help in combination with the preventive. And I'd like to spread diatomaceous earth all over the yard to help kill anything living out there. We bought a 10-lb of the food-grade DE to use when treating the house, it's safe to dust the pets with, and it contains no chemicals whatsoever.
