What is wrong with my foot? I have a perma-cramp!

WTF

Yesterday morning I got up and it felt like I had a cramp under my foot, in the arch.  Well, it didn't go away.  I went for a short run yesterday afternoon and figured it would loosen everything up...but although it didn't hurt while I run, it came back right after.  And it is still there.  It is not the super intense pain kind of cramp, just a dull annoying pain.

WDYT Dr.ML?

  • Put a golf ball in your freezer.. When it's cold roll your foot over top of it on the floor.. While sitting.

Or take a bottle of water or whatever condiment comes in a cylindrical bottle or jar and do the same. It will feel awesome and will loosen up the ligament that supports your arch.

  • Sounds like plantar fasciitis to me.

  • I'm sorry - but I'm afraid we're going to have to amputate. How do you feel about only having one foot?

Sounds to me like you might have pulled something - have you been on your feet a lot recently? You can gently point/flex your foot to do a few simple stretches. If it starts feeling worse you can always ice it - 30 minutes ice 30 minutes resting.

You know, I'm just realizing I went to work thursday in my super flat boots, and I walk quite a bit going in (about 30 minutes each way, and I walk some during the day) and I also went for a walk friday night with the same boots, and because I was wearing tights, it felt like my boots were too loose and uncomfortable.  I think it might have happened then.

I find that really flat shoes are worse for my feet than heels.  :(

I'll keep trying to stretch it and I may have to ice it, because I just went upstairs to check on the girls and it really hurt.

When I wear flip flips too much and walk I get the same thing. Sometimes wearing heels the next day and it helps. Do lots of toe pointing flexing to try to loosen it.
  • Hold a dish towel around the ball of your foot and pull toward you to stretch the arch. You can do this before you get out of bed in the morning too and it will really help.
  • Yeeeeouch. I find that the only thing that works is walking on my tip toes or heels. Gay right?
