Our new living room

We've finally got fully situated in our new house and I think I have the living room almost how I want it. Still feel like I missing something though....

Please disregard the husband (he refused to move after helping me clean!), random objects on the coffee table, and the dog bed!

I'm still not quite sure what I want to do for above the fire place. For now, it's holding a bunch of knickknacks that have no place yet. I want to add something, but the only thing I had in mind would be expensive and I don't want to go overboard with the "branch" theme. Haven't talked the hubby into it and doubt I will.

The rug I got. Love it, but not too sure if it's place right yet, like it's not showing enough? Also, I only have sheers up right now (Branchbrook from BBB), and I'm planning on adding two curtain panels when I have spare $$. (Venice in Blue or Aqua)

And then the TV wall. Not sure what to do with it in the mean time. I haven't decided if I want the TV on that wall, or the opposite one yet. When I do decide though, I'll be adding in floating shelves to help support my collection of breakables! Do love my metal art branch though, which inspired the whole room.

So, what do you think? I'm open to ideas or suggestions

Re: Our new living room

  • Like it so far...

Sofa should not be lined up on the rug's edge- it looks weird and shrinks your space. I think the sofa's front legs should be on the rug, but the back legs on the hardwood.

    I agree with this comment.

You have done a great job and I really like the rug! The only piece I'm not really sold on is the coffee table - I think the space calls for something bolder - maybe solid wood?

As for above the fireplace, what about some nice wall scones for now? Target has very nice ones for pretty inexpensive. They would suit the color scheme and fill in the space for now.

I bought these at Target for $20 and they look fantastic and really nice in person - I think they'd work in your space as well.

  • I agree with the PP's. Just put the sectional's front legs onto he rug. As for the lounger part, I would just put the inside legs of that on the rug... so all of the back legs should be on the hardwood. KWIM?

  • It all depends on how DIY you want to be with the space. Its something about the space you have above the tv and fireplace that make me feel like somethings missing. I dont know if doing a framed moulding detail with a contrasting color or wallpaper would do it. For above the fireplace, that could be easily solved with a large piece of art, or mirror, maybe small sconces to the left and right of the mirror (candle sconces if you dont want to do electrical).
