Bummer. Another buyer put in an offer and the seller decided to work with them instead. Our realtor suggested we put in a backup offer, which we did, and the seller swiftly negotiated it, so we are wondering if perhaps they aren't 100% comfortable with the other offer? Chances are we still won't get it, but our backup is in.
Saw another ten houses this weekend between showings and open houses and sent a handful more to our agent so she can get the details on them for us. It's so early in the process, I know we shouldn't have expected it to work out so perfectly (that not only is the first house we see THE house, but that we get it) but I was hopeful. Anyways. Back to the drawing board!
Re: We did not get the house :(
Sorry you are disappointed. Don't worry, there is a better house coming along. We also did not get the house we first wanted as there were three offers on the same day and it went over asking price.
That house was beautiful but in a high risk flood zone area, had a small backyard, the most expensive house in the neighborhood and was a bit further out from H's work. We put in an offer a few days ago on another house and it was accepted. We still have to close so not final yet but this one is bigger, brand new with a 10 year structural warranty, closer to work and has an acre of land which makes it very private.
Bottom line, when you do find the perfect house you will not even think about the ones you didn't get. Not that you didn't know all this already.
So many deals fall through these days -- we got our house by putting in a backup offer!
Either way, I know you're bummed the seller didn't run out with open arms and say, "It's yours!!!"
Oooh interesting!
Our agent did say she was surprised how quickly and strongly they negotiated the backup offer - she thinks they must not be totally comfortable with the original offer. So we shall see!
And like you all said...it's just a matter of time. If this is the right house for us, it will work out, and if not, the right one will come along. There's no hurry and we don't have another house to sell, so we can wait for the right opportunity.
That sucks. I has a sad for you.
House hunting and all the negotiations kind of suck, too.
Sucky.
Even though this isn't a personal afront to you, I know that it feels like a personal rejection which just adds to the sucky feelings of not getting something you want.
As others have said though, look for this to be a blessing in disguise if you end up not getting it in the end!
