BB&B PSA

I responded to the post below, but since it has been a little while wanted to make sure that everyone got the information.

BB&B actually has the best return policy out there.  Their policy is that they are not allowed (employees can be fired for this) to say no to any customer. If you were to buy a sheet set and then realize in 3 years that there was a stain from your dog getting sick on it you could take it back, with no receipt and return/exchange the product.

Our local BB&B has a lady that exchanges her towels once a year because the sun bleaches them in the bathroom.

One man exchanged his WORKING 3 year old Dyson to the newer model because he "Wanted to"

Also BB&B coupons NEVER expire.  They may have dates on them that say they do but all of the 20% off one item coupons never expire, the specialty coupons do (20% off of Dyson atm) because those are discounts/coupons issued by the manufacturer.

I might pay a little more to get something at BB&B but I know that my Dyson is always protected.

Re: BB&B PSA

  • I know for awhile, my local BB&B would NOT accept expired coupons, but they started doing it again. I save all mine (I have probably 20 of the various coupons - 15%, 20% and $5 off).

So your telling me, if I somehow got bleech stains all over my brand new sheets & towels I can return them at bb&b - no questions asked? (My towels & sheets are only 6 months old and were ruined within a month of me getting them - I still don't know how). I was disappointed because I finially got some nice stuff and ruined them.

Walk me thru this return process. I normally don't mind returning stuff but for something like this, I might be somewhat embarassed. I would love to have my nice towels again.

These people are jerks and raise prices for everyone else.  Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

You should be able to walk into your local BB&B and go to their CS desk and explain that you bought the product, washed them a few times and they were ruined and that you were sad and hoped there was something they could do about it.

I had a bullet mixer that burnt out and was able to take it back explain that it burnt out and they walked back got me a new one and I walked out.

As far as the Dyson returns etc, those are sent back to the manufacturer and credited that way the prices are jacked up that much.

I agree with this.  It's probably the reason their prices have gone up to the point where coupons don't even make them competitive anymore.

Yes This kind of behavior makes my blood boil.

Sometimes I leave a bowl of candy out at my desk and offer it to my co-workers. Does that mean someone should just come over a take the whole bowl, just because they CAN?

Their return policy is essentially based on the honor system. Obviously the people mentioned in OP have none. If an item you bought is legitimately broken (and not just "faded by the sun"), by all means take it back. If it dies through many years of use far beyond the original manufacturer warranty, there is no reason BB&B should have to buy you a new one. Period.

ETA: This is not meant to be directed toward the OP, who had a legitimate problem that BB&B's return policy helped her solve.

I couldn't agree more. This is exactly why costs skyrocket. They would be out of business if they simply returned everything and never compensated for it elsewhere. Now its to the point where I wont even consider walking in their doors without a coupon because of how expensive everything has gotten.

I agree, but some people need to realize that some/a lot of returns go back to the manufacturer and they are refunded the cost.  Also a lot of the clearance items are returns.

I bought my Dyson at BB&B specifically so if it breaks in 13.5 months and the warranty is dead I'm not out a practically brand new, expensive @ss vacuum.

Oh and I totally scored some gorgeous serving dishes/decor items today from clearance for under $10, their clearance does kick @ss.

  • emjacobs - There are stores that offer extended service warranties on electronic items and small electric items.   I know for sure Target offers these warranties and you can buy one for your Dyson.

  • I had a glass jar from my spice rack roll off the counter and shatter. I went in the store to buy a replacement and the guy asked which spice, I said "italian seasoning", and he took the one off the display and gave it to me. He said they have discounts built into their prices with vendors for displays, defects and returns. I love BB&B.

Thats cool, I can pay more for the extended warranty as well as for the vacuum since their Dysons were priced higher than BB&B's to begin with and I had the 20% off coupon.

I really didn't post this to get harassed about some of the things that are returned to BB&B for reasons that aren't worthy of a return (sunbleached towels etc) I posted this to let people know that if you buy a product that isn't living up to its requirements or is defective there is something you can do about it and BB&B isn't going to give you the fifth degree like some of you have.

I don't think anyone harassed you but rather was commenting on the other examples you gave of people taking advantage of the system.  Clearly if a product doesn't live up to reasonable expectations and falls apart after a few uses, yes it's nice that the store will take them back and make you whole one way or another.

However, returning something that you've gotten extensive use out of (the Dyson) or that has damage because of user error (the sun-bleached towels) is a completely different kind of behavior and that's what we're commenting on (or at least what I'm commenting on; I shouldn't speak for everyone else).

Your PSA was well-intended.  I just think that some of the examples you gave are of people with really bad intentions.  It was not a judgment of anything you did.

No I fully understood your response and your anger towards those people, I was using those examples to show "Hey look if your product is really broken it won't be hard to get it taken care of because these dipsh!ts are able to get theres taken care of".  If my Dyson breaks in 5 years, I'll buy another vacuum because really I got a lot of use out of it.  Now if it breaks in 6 months (which will be one month out of warranty) you better believe I'm going back to BB&B with that sucker.  But I do know for a fact that things like Dysons, and Keurigs are sent back to the manufacturer and the store is credited so the prices are not hiked up for those products, its the towels and shower sets that screw everyone.

And I understand that other stores sell service warrantys on their products.  Target's Dyson was $80 more than BB&B (before discount) and the service package was 2 years for $50 (so we are at $130 more) with the BB&B coupon I saved $115 (so now we are at $245) there is no way I would pay that much more to buy a service package from another store.
