First and foremost, thank you to everyone who gave us housing advice a while back, it played a part in our decision making!
DH has found us a flat in Aberdeen! It would have made a perfect story line for House Hunters International (those who can watch HGTV) but alas, we had two houses to chose from and not the needed three...
The letting market in Aberdeen is insanely expensive and small due in a large part because of the oil industry, so there was slim pickings. We settled on a 3/4 bedroom flat in a nice section of the city that DH can walk to work if need be. Our compromise, it is located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a three story house and our garden area of the backyard is not enclosed (bad news for our dog, but manageable)
Pros: cheapest by far!!! (owner is a fellow chevron employee who gave us a sweet deal), nicely updated American styled kitchen and appliances and two full bathrooms, double glazing, new windows, plenty of old world character.
Cons: It is a flat, not a house, we are on the 2nd floor, no enclosed area for our dog, (however, before we agreed on house, DH and I compromised-before work every weekday, he will take Max out for a walk and to do his business),also, slightly further from DH's work than other houses we looked at.
Overall, I am one happy camper...I am already decorating the flat in my mind and planning our first European trip with the money we saved on rent...
