Cinco de Mayo Menu

Let me know if you have any suggestions! We're going to have around 15 people.

Nacho Bar

Chips
Seasoned Ground Beef
Chopped tomatoes
Chopped onions
Queso
Black olives
Salsa
Chopped jalapeno
Chopped lettuce

Do you think beans of some sort are necessary?

Beer, possibly margs, and churro cupcakes will also be served.

Re: Cinco de Mayo Menu

  • I think beans would be good, especially if there are any vegetarians.

I'd add guac, salsa, sour cream. I'd probably add tortillas, in case people would rather do a taco/burrito than nachos.

  • Ah, yes! Sour cream. I meant to add that.

I love guac but I worry it'll brown quickly. How long do you think it will last?

  • Anyone have an easy to make but yummy taco salad or dip? I'm supposed to bring one to a cinco party

I would just make it right before the party, and it will be fine. The lime juice will keep it from browning and in my experience, guac goes so quickly anyway, it never has a chance to brown. :)

  • This guacamole recipe lasts because of all the lime juice in it.  I always use all four of the suggested limes.  Citric acid can keep the avocado from browning when it is stirred in well.

I second the ideas of beans, salsa and sour cream

This watermelon-jicama salad is easy and goes well with tacos.

Submerge all the avocado pits about halfway back in the dip after you finish making it. This also keeps the guac from turning brown.

  • What an interesting tip! Thanks!
  • i make a really simple yet always a big hit at a party and thats layer #1 cream cheese spread on the bottom of a casserole dish then add salsa that has been really drained well and mix with sour cream thats layer #2 then layer of shredded cheese then some olives bake it at 350 til cheese is melted and serve with chips
  • Looks good! I would probably add some chopped scallions ,cilantro and lime wedges for garnishes but they are not necessary.
  • A great option if you want to make the guac ahead of time is to make it as your normally would - but don't mix in the sour cream. Instead just smear the sour cream over the top - it will help seal the guac and you can set it in the fridge to let all the flavors mingle and then take it out at party time and just stir!

  • Easiest Mexican dip ever and I get compliments all the time!

     You need:

1 block cream cheese (I use low fat Philly but whatever kind works)

1 can of Hormel chili without beans

1 small can of diced green chilies

1 bag of shredded Mexican style cheese

Layer them into a round pie dish in that order. Spread cream cheese on bottom, spread chili next, then green chilies and top with entire package of shredded cheese. Bake at 375 for about 20-25 mins until the cheese starts to bubble!
