I'm just here for a semester, which ends in like 2 weeks.
My first visit in 2003 was shocking - I couldn't believe people just carried around bigass machine guns around town. Granted, they're soldiers, but they're not always in uniform and they ride the bus and stuff carrying their guns.
My H was chatting up every soldier who would listen and even asked these guys at a gas station to take a pic with us. I was a little embarrassed, since I'm not a tourist exactly, but it made his day (he did ROTC and Airborne School in college).
