It's all a bit sketchy to be honest -- I called the 800 number they had on their site. They told me it would take 48 hours to get a call back to schedule my appointment.
I was sorta WTF about that but let it go.
Got the call today and the lightbulb clicked - they basically take your information and distribute it out to a ton of shutter/blind/window treatment companies. Then whoever gets to you first, calls and schedules an appointment.
Which, isn't really that big of a deal -- but here's what IS (at least to me): you will only be seeing the products from one company. So you are NOT getting a HD designer that is bringing samples from several brands...you are getting someone direct from a specific brand with only their products.
I had never heard of the company that called to schedule the appointment so afterwards, I went back to the HD website to figure out if I did something wrong. I went through the same process because I want to see Hunter Douglas products and found a link for them specifically, expect this time it included a code for me to input when I called the HD 800 number.
I'm feeling a bit ranty about this whole thing. TOO HARD HD. Either make this explicit so you can pick the manufacturer directly from your website or hire some people that can represent all lines!
Re: FYI about Home Depot Design Services (specific to shutters/shades)
I remember going through something similar with Costco and their granite counter top service. They simply gave our number to a local company who came and gave us a quote. This guy shows up with a sample box, missing samples, and a white sheet of paper to write the quote on. He didn't even bother taking it back and typing it out. He just scribbled down the numbers and handed me a crumpled piece of paper with a price----no business name on it, no terms & conditions, just a white sheet of computer paper. WTF? We never followed up with them, and surprise! They never called us back either.
ETA: I didn't expect Costco to do their own counters, but I did expect them to send someone reputable.
This was not our experience at all when purchasing blinds through HD. Yes, they contract the work out. A rep from the shutter/shade installer came out with multiple books/brands that HD sells for us to select from. They later worked up a quote and we went from there.

Interesting theory...I made our appointment at the store and I see you did yours via phone. I wonder if it does make a difference? Sorry your experience wasn't great

We made our appointments thru the store too and did not have the experience you had FOG.
