Moms: Potty training/underwear question

Did you buy the thick training pants, or just skip right to the regular character underwear.  Daycare I guess potty trained her (I had nothing to do with this), she was wearing pull ups to school.  They have now requested that we start sending her in underwear since she never wets herself.  She always tells me at home when she has to go and never uses the pull ups.  So do I need to buy the training pants, do they offer some protection in case of an accident or should I just make her happy and buy her Dora underwear?

Re: Moms: Potty training/underwear question

  • I went from diapers to underwear.  I didn't bother with the training pants.

  • Hmmm, perhaps buy a packet of both. They have some at One Step Ahead that look good.

  • We just did regular underwear.

  • Buy the Dora ones. It reinforces that she is a big girl and if it makes her happier, then do it. Otherwise, she might be upset over wearing the thicker ones and regress.

  • The trainers dont look like they would really contain a big mess anyway, so I would just get the Dora ones.

  • Ignore my answer, they say to use those instead of pull-ups.

  • We went right to underwear. Dora and Minnie.

  • I'd take her to pick out some real underwear. Worst case scenario it is an extra pair of pants and a sheet to add to the laundry, with a kid in the house that isn't even noticeable.

  • Straight to underwear.

  • We went to underwear when we were at that point. It ended up helping because the few times he did have accidents, he hated the way it felt in the underwear so it helped him to become 100% potty trained.

  • Okay, Dora it is (Oh, and maybe Minnie Mouse too!).  I would not have thought about it if my mom hadn't been telling me we had to buy the trainer ones first.  I didn't even know what they were, lol.

  • Ditto the underwear. I made a big deal out of it when we got them too. We went to Target and picked them out together and then went out to Chik fil a afterward to celebrate his new "undies" as he calls them. I still have some of the thicker ones. I put him in them when we are going to be out for the day in case there are any accidents as they occassionally happen. He really doesn't notice anymore though if he is wearing the character undies or the thicker ones. (This could be a boy thing though).
  • We made a big deal of them too. We let her pick out her potty seat and pick out all of her underwear. Then the first week of keeping them dry, we rewarded her with more underwear.

  • I loved the thick Gerber training underwear.  Not that they really did anything, but they were so cute.  Get either kind.

  • Are the training ones the pullups things?  If not, when do you use those?  Potty training scares me.
    Shot first, questions later.
  • No, pull ups are diapers.

The training ones are, thicker, and I don't know....  Little toddler butts look cute in them though.

And you don't have to be scared.  Just put it off as long as possible, and your kid (with a little help from daycare) will train themselves.  Easy peasy!

  • We went straight to underwear. She has pullups and an extra set of pants in her bag if she has an accident (which is hardly ever, thank God!).

They offer protection in case of an accident.

If she never wets, go straight to reg. underwear.
