PIP: Fake brick WWYD?

Hey ladies,

We have a fake brick wall in our kitchen and it's hideous. Eventually we are getting our kitchen redone, however for now we have to live with it. What would you do? We have the option of painting it, and I think that may look better but am still unsure. Any suggestions? And if I should paint it, what colour would you choose?

 Thanks!

here's a pic:

Re: PIP: Fake brick WWYD?

  • Is it just a textured wallpaper? If so, I'd remove it. If that's too difficult, I would paint it a bright white and try to roll with it.

  • I really want to remove it, but I'm unsure of the condition of the wall behind it. I don't want to put much money into this project if we're getting our kitchen redone soon anyway. I might try to take off a panel carefully to see what's behind it...

    Thanks for the help!

  • I'd paint it white. It's harder to tell brick venner is fake when white.

If it's wallpaper, I'd remove it. If it's fake brick with a heavy texture, I'd paint it.

  • I would paint it a creamy color or something that blends in with your current colors.
  • I vote for paint it.

Is it a panel.....like the wood paneling from the 70s?  If so, I don't think I'd remove it until closer to when you are redoing the space.  Just because the fake wood paneling (that was also wall papered) in our family room was sooooo glued on, and nailed on, that we ended up having to re drywall the WHOLE room because of how much of the drywall got pulled off just from pulling off the paneling.  :(  And 6 years later, we still haven't finished the ceiling. poo...  I hate drywall dust!

  • My old apartment had a brick wall in the kitchen that was painted white and it was pretty cool. Granted, it was an actual exposed brick wall... but as pp mentioned, painted veneer brick will look less fake if it's painted.
