S/O: Are your grandparents still around?

I was surprised to read that many of you have grandparents still alive. My father's parents passed before I was born, and maternal grandfather died maybe 20 years ago and my maternal grandmother died 8 years ago.

I would love to be able to talk with them about their lives now that I am an adult.

  • I have one that is still around.

my H's aunt, her GREAT grandmother is still alive. Apparently this last weekend (she is 96) she got pneumonia, usually that is when it is their time to pass, but she went to the hospital, got better, and is back to normal now. Everyone is wondering when she will pass lol.

Holy crap! Now that's some longevity! DH's father is older then any of my grandparents were when they passed. Maybe longevity just isn't in my genes.

  • I have 3 grandparents.  My dad's mom died when I was 12.

My mom's parents are in their mid 70s, and my dad's dad is in his mid 80s.

When I was born all of my mom's grandparents were alive, and I remember 3 of them (they died when I was 2, 10, 18 and 20).

  • No.  :(

My paternal grandfather passed 2 years ago this June, and my paternal grandmother about 2 years before that.  I wasn't really close w/ my grandpa, but I was pretty close with my grandma, and miss her a lot.

Never knew my mom's mom (she died when my mom was 22), and my mom's dad died when I was in HS.  He was lots of fun, and I wish he could have gotten to know his great granddaughters.

  • I never met one grandmother, she died of breast cancer when dad was 14.  Im named after her.  My paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother passed away about 2004ish.  My maternal grandfather is the only one left.  He is in assisted living and has had Alzheimers for about 12 yearsish.  He cant function at all, he cant move or talk.  He has to be fed and he is also blind and deaf.   Its really difficult.  He has always been my favorite grandparent and he would not be ok with this if he knew what was going on.  My DH had 3/4 until last year his grandfather died in a car accident.  He had dimensia/Alzheimers but the family kind of mishandled it, which I wont get into.  He was still driving and pulled out in front of a truck.  He has both grandmothers now.
