Are accent walls still in style?
I sometimes feel so out of touch, and let me also say, that my last (first) painting project wasn't exactly a huge win. My house sometimes looks like an easter egg. Oops. The hall is great (dark sage), the kitchen is okay (yellow), but the living room threw it all off (grape purple.) I think I'd be happier if the living room was a nice neutral blue.
The bedrooms and bath isn't done yet, as I can't pick out colors for the rooms, my confidence in this is shot. For the guest room I want a shade of tan as it may be a baby room in the next year or so, I was thinking a border of yellow or green would be nice and not have to completely repaint. For the master bed, I had originally wanted to do some sort of light cinnamon, but now am thinking a darker tan with an accent wall behind the bed of a shade of cinnamon/light red. Is this still nice? The master bath, I think I've picked out a shade that's sort of light denim/dusty blue.
I'll post pics tomorrow if I can, but for now, am I on the right track, or set up for disappointment again? (also, I know I can repaint, but it requires removing a big flat screen and DH refuses for at least 2 more years. We nearly broke it last time.)

This. I have seen accent walls done all of my life....the only thing that changes is the way that they are done, sometimes because of trends (stone/brick, certain colors) and sometimes just personal preference (color and intensity of color).
One thing that I think a lot of people get wrong is which wall to treat as an accent wall. It really has to make sense in the space and accent something worth looking at.
I love accent walls and especially in a neutral room, I like to have a blast of color in some way shape or form. We're doing out guest room in a greige color with a purple accent wall to pick up the bedding. My Master is being painted a silver in the sitting area and a dark navy (almost black) in the main area. I will probably do a wallpaper accent wall behind the bed and on the divider between the two areas.
I just picked all the colors for my home and before I make any final decisions, I will leave the samples up and stand back and see how they look from room to room. I think that the problem a lot of people make when choosing color is not taking into consideration how one space flows into the next and just choosing one color per space without working into account how that color will tie into the spaces that surround it. What your saying about your living room is a perfect example.
When I picked the color to the Master Bath, I chose a color that would work with the other 2 colors so that if the door is open, there is still a flow to the color palette.
Yellow and tan are beautiful together and would work perfectly as a guest room and then again as a neutral palette for a nursery. Because I love bold accent walls, I would do one wall in yellow or a border in yellow.

That's the thing, I did JUST this. I had large paint chips up for weeks and loved it! I just have no clue I guess.. Love your suggestion of how to do the yellow, that would be lovely!
ETA - I love that second photo, thank you so much for sharing! That's very close to the wall color I have in mind. I've found a new favorite board
