Think the Clarisonic was a waste of money

Yes, another Clarisonic post.

I got one from my MIL as a gift and have been using it for about 10 days.  I think that since I had a good skincare routine before and no problems with my skin, that it really wasn't necessary.  I already use Retin-A and wash my face using a Buff-Puff, so my skin is well exfoliated and my blackheads have been nearly eliminated since starting Retin-A.  The only issue I have with my skin is mild redness (possibly very mild rosacea) on my cheeks, which I didn't expect the Clarisonic to help.  For me, it was kind of silly to get a $120 product when what I did was already working.

There is absolutely no difference in my skin after using the Mia for 10 days (I don't know what in the world I was expecting, since there is nothing that needs cleared up).  I'll keep using it, because it does do a good job cleansing, and does it in just one minute.  When I used a Buff-Puff, I probably spent about three minutes rubbing it in circles on my face.  If it hadn't been a gift, I would have been kicking myself for spending over $100 to save myself two minutes.

  • I didn't have acne issues before I got clairisonic so I can't say I have noticed any real difference there BUT I have noticed a change in my laugh lines. They have not disappeared but they have gotten lighter. In the past I had to use microdermabraision for these results.

That is good to hear.  I'm holding out hope that long term use will help with fine lines and helping my products absorb better into my skin.

I have the Olay version. I use mine only once-twice a week when I feel like I want a deep, exfoliating clean. The other nights, I use the OCM, which I think is fabulous.

  • I bought one a few years ago and didn't notice any difference in my skin.  I went back to washing with soap and water b/c it is quicker.

  • I thought it was too, I returned it just shy of the 60-day return period.

  • Remember though, you are getting a deep clean and that will help your skincare products absorb into your skin better.

  • I've just used mine the once and it didn't make me look 21 again ;) I'll see how it goes. The lady was pretty clear that I could return it. So, I have that in my back pocket.

This is my #1 reason for using it...so lets hope it's true! ;) I do feel like my skin is much cleaner, and definitely getting less hormonal acne since I've been using it. Don't know yet if it was worth the $100 but I do love it. And if it helps the RetinA work better (which it seems to be doing), and help with anti aging products in the long run, then it will be well worth it to me :)

  • The clarisonic isn't for everyone, but I can't live without mine.

I had decent skin before, but now my skin is pretty blemish free.  It did take about 3 weeks for me to start seeing some results.

  • um...if you have redness issues, why would you use a buff puff, retin-a, AND a clarisonic?  that is exfoliation overkill if ever i have heard!  you are washing your face, not the kitchen floor!

FWIW, i also have redness issues and will likely develop rosacea, as it does run in my family.  my derm has advised me time and time again to exfoliate, but not over-do it.

I was using the buff puff before I got the Clarisonic.  I go lightly on my cheeks, which is the area with redness, and neither the buff puff or Clarisonic have exacerbated the problem.  Neither has the Retin-A - at least not when my face became used to it.

ETA: I also should have also said that I used the Extra Gentle Buff Puff. It actually is awesome. I started using it when I was getting Retin-A flakes. It really helped reduce the flakes without being rough on my skin.
  • what?! I love my knock off Pretika..it keeps my skin clear

I'm the same as you, Go Dawgs. I have pretty clear skin with little/no breakouts, and I guess I had this thought that the Clarisonic was going to make my skin "amazing", but it didn't... but then I too thought that there really wash't anything to "clean up" per se. I did end up keeping it though for this reason- the deep clean, the exfoliation, the 60-second timer, and that I hope to have my skincare products penetrate my skin better. So for me, it certainly wasn't a "miracle worker" either.

  • I've been using the Clarisonic for 3.5 years, and my redness has gone down over the years. I think it's a combination of gentle exfoliation and better absorption of my prescription creme. I use the Clarisonic every other night, with a delicate brush head, any more than that becomes too much for my skin.
