About the color: don't change it! I just added red highlights to my hair (same color as yours), and I hate them and even after I died over it the red is still coming through. Dark borwn hair is pretty, don't make the same mistake I did! lol
Yes, I think it would draw a lot of attention to your pretty face (I sound like a grandma, lol)
eta: maybe with shorter hair it would be less work to straighten? I have wavy hair and have to use a round brush when I dry it but only you know if you're up for that task, especially if you have to wash your hair every day.
How would I tell my salon? I don't want to print out a picture of buddha! lol
