s/o work clothes

I never know if i'm wearing the right thing to work. people at my school differ so much in their dress. Actually it's been like that at most of my schools.

Some teachers wear kaki cargo pants, and hoodies, others wear dresses, others wear more what i wear, which is generally dress pants and a nice top, or some kind of sweater or cardigan over a t shirt or nice shirt, or nicer tank that can be worn under said sweater......

and seriously, our principal does not set a good reference point, b/c one day he will wear a track suit and tennis shoes, and then the next day he will wear a 3 piece suit and tie.

  • I could guess that you could go wrong in khakis, an oxford with a cardigan over it, and sensible shoes.  lol.  But, seriously, clean-cut stuff like that.
  • This is why I hate poorly defined "business casual". It's a freakin' mess.

I always feel like my clothes are "appropriate" like they don't show to much cleavage, or show my back when i bend over and my pants aren't low cut or anything... i'm sure what i wear is fine. I just feel like there is such a drastic range of things people wear daily.... it's surprising.

  • I wear conservative skirts and sweater sets, dresses, and sometimes if I'm extra casual I'll wear a knit top and cotton pants with a cardigan. In the winter I wear more jackets with my outfits than cardigans.

I tend to dress VERY nautically, but I work for a maritime museum.

OMG, nautical is my favorite kind of style! I will always come home with new things and show H and say "see... this part makes it nautical!" and he will ALWAYS say "it's nautical nonsense!"

i'm actually wanting a tiny anchor tattoo somewhere as my next tattoo.

  • That's kinda how it is at my work (university), but maybe without the track suits.  I like it, because to me it means anything goes.  If I'm not teaching, I can come in jeans and a plaid shirt if I feel like it.  I try to dress more conservatively when I teach, because some of my students are older than me and I want to look professional and mature, lol.

I teach h.s. and it is very difficult to get a feel for the dress code.  As I have continued to age at this school, I have gotten much better at not wearing sloppy clothes (except the few times when I am just dragging).  I have come to the personal realization that if I dress better, I feel better at being in school and in charge of my room/students.  I still wear "dressier" flip-flops though when the weather gets just slightly warm.
