Re: Anyone gotten a credit report before?

  • You can go to www.annualcreditreport.com to pull your free reports. You are allowed one free report from each credit bureau one time per year.

  • AnnualCreditReport.com is the ONLY authorized source for the free annual credit report that's yours by law. The Fair Credit Reporting Act guarantees you access to your credit report for free from each of the three nationwide credit reporting companies ? Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion ? every 12 months. The Federal Trade Commission has received complaints from consumers who thought they were ordering their free annual credit report, and yet couldn't get it without paying fees or buying other services. TV ads, email offers, or online search results may tout "free" credit reports, but there is only one authorized source for a truly free credit report.

One free one per year, according to FTC law.

I've had to put my credit on "fraud alert" once, too, because my info got stolen from a database.   I was able to do that directly on the Experian, Equifax, and TransU websites, which makes the crediters call you before opening any new accounts or setting up new services in your name.

  • From what I've heard, annualcreditreport.com doesn't give you an actual score (if that's what you're interested in).

I used freecreditreport.com. Yes I had to pay for it, but I know they won't steal my credit card info. Just be sure to cancel if you don't want to continue to have access to your credit report/score.

  • I use the annual credit report yearly.  It directs you to each of the 3 credit report companies and so you can actually get 3 different reports.  You are then able to print them or access them online for like 30 days or something.  I find it convenient and havent had any problems.

  • *whew*

I did see the annualcreditreport (and used it)

but every time I saw that one it followed with another comment saying "I use ____.com and it's way better!" or whatever

It just made me super nervous to use my social online.

    Thanks, guys.

  • You can call them too, if they have their number posted on the site which I believe they do.

I'm sure soon enough there will be commercials for checking credit reports. Usually Summer or early Fall is when I see them pop up over, and over.

If you see anything fishy, report it asap to the credit reporting company, then to the company that filed it, and if you have to go further... Ugh. I feel for you.

However, I hope you don't. Best of luck and hope nothing fishy turns up!

  • You'll get free report from the top 3 agencies once a year. I would advise you to get one every 4 months. If you are looking for some other ways, there is no good free ones. You have to look for the paid ones. This is only my opinion.
