DS turned 2 a while ago but we never had a party for him. We're doing it this weekend since both our families will be in town. It's a joint party with me, my parents, XH, his parents, DS friends, and everyone from DS class at daycare. I'm not well versed in kids parties and have done virtually no planning. Ooops...
Right now I'm expecting about 22 adults and 8 kids. I've only gotten 2 out of 9 RSVPs from daycare kids. I'm also missing 3 from friends (which equals 6 adults and 3 kids).
I rented a room at a local kids area. I ordered cake for 48 people w/1 slice each. That's the extent of my planning. Should I pick up some cupcakes or is what I have enough? I'm going to pick up a couple decorations (though the room doesn't need much). How many plates and forks do I need? How do I figure out how many drinks to bring? I'm lost. Obviously party planning is not my forte.
Thankfully I don't need to do anything whatsoever for activities. Nobody is bringing gifts and we're not doing anything official (aka: everyone can eat cake whenever and let the kids play).
Re: Random kids party Q NSOR
I would have something other than just cake. Maybe fruit of some sort (or fruit salad). Not everyone will necessariliy want cake, and I feel like fruit gives a good, healthy alternative.
Also, my mind goes to allergies. many kids have dairy allergies, and in my case, my son can't eat wheat or gluten. Now, I always come prepared becuase I never expect people to have something for him. But I feel like having fruit on hand gives a good alternative in case there are some people who CAN'T eat the cake.

That's a great idea! Maybe chips and dip, fruit, and something else easy to snack on. I'll probably also have some easy snacks for the kids (yogurt raisins, juice boxes, etc.).
THANK YOU! There's a little boy in DS class who is allergic to dairy (but wheat and soy are ok). I'm going to call around and see if there's a bakery in town that can make a dairy-free cupcake. I don't know if he's coming or not but if he does it would be nice to have something special for him. I know DS sits next to him a lot during snack and lunch time because I told them I don't care what he eats. They'll give him whatever his friend is eating so they can sit next to each other. Otherwise the kid has to eat by himself
I would just suggest juice boxes for the kids...less for them to spill.
From going to other parties I'm betting that just about all the adults will have cake (we're big cake people! lol). Thank you SO much for the numbers! That's the main thing I have no clue about. That amount of plats and drinks was what I was thinking but I just wasn't sure since I haven't done this before.
