"Even after the Super Bowl victory of the New Orleans Saints, I have noticed a large number of people, implying with bad jokes and anecdotes, that Loozianna Cajuns ain't smart. I would like to state for the record that I disagree with that assessment. Anybody who would build a city 5 feet below sea level in a hurricane zone and fill it with Democrats who can't swim is a genius".
I have no fuuking words. Why is this even funny?

"Thank you for proving once and for all that you're a racist idiot."
It's a shame that Tornado Alley hasn't been as effective.

I don't see this as any different than, "what do you call 500 lawyers at the bottom of the sea?"
ETA: I hope this doesn't make me racist. I have friends who are democrats.
It's very different.
1. There hasn't actually been a natural disaster that resulted in 500 lawyers at the bottom of the sea. This "joke" makes fun of one of the worst natural disasters and human tragedies in modern American history.
2. Lawyers are assholios, and really, it would be a good start.

I guess, I was just seeing it as one group picking on another group, for whatever differences are between them, plus some factual information and a vague stereotype thrown in for good measure. It's a tired formula of a joke that's been played out over and over.
But it's not the liberal part that makes the joke distasteful. Make fun of liberals all you want. Whatevs.
It's making light of all the people who lost their lives or their homes or their livelihoods in Katrina. Oh, look, a hurricane destroyed a whole city! That's funny because they were liberal! Except that no, it's not. It's just gross.
