Paint or backsplash... which first?
We are going to paint our kitchen and install a backsplash. I've been looking at the small glass tile backsplashes. So... do we paint first or do the backsplash first? If we paint first, do we paint the area where the backsplash goes? Will you be able to see through the glass tiles at all?
Re: Paint or backsplash... which first?
I painted my kitchen before installing the backsplash. I assumed that I would have to touch up the paint around the tile after I installed it, but I didn't have to touch up a thing. every bit of grout that I got on the paint wiped right off. I think it looks a lot cleaner this way than it would have if I had tried it the other way around.
Painting behind where the tile will go is pointless, and yes, you will see through glass tile. You will see the mastic.
You won't be able to see the paint through the glass tiles....just the adhesive, unless the glass tiles are backed so that you can't see through it.
We painted prior to doing the glass mosaic backsplash in our master bath. I thought it would be easier than trying to paint without getting any on the tile....I am kind of a messy painter.
I painted my kitchen before I did the backsplash, and I didn't paint the backsplash area.
If you look at the back of the tile you're going to use you should be able to see if it's transparent or not. Ours had a backing on it, so your couldn't see through it, but I'm not sure if that's always the case.
