So, I lost my job yesterday...

DH and I aren't sure what we're going to do. We both have B.A. degrees, and I'd FINALLY gotten a decent job. DH is still working in retail while working on his MBA. I got laid off yesterday because of budget cuts. Ugh. Not sure what our plan is now - we really don't have anything going for us here, so I feel like we should just take off and travel. Thats just my opinion, though . . . DH is more practical that I am.

small side note: I just updated my siggy. Photobucket has it sized to a small size. theNest apparen't doesn't recognize that. I'm so tired of computer problems, I don't even care. Any advice though (for when I do care enough to change it?)

  • You're pretty! I love your wedding dress.

I'm sorry you got laid off. Did you get a severance package? Can you collect unemployment?

I don't know what your financial situation is like, but things were rough when my H was unemployed. I hope you find something soon.

I'm so sorry about your job.

I'm like your H.  I have a degree but work in retail, have been for 5 years.  I make good money and own my home but if I didn't have anything holding me back I would up and leave/travel too.

So I say go for it.  Dang those pesky, practical husbands!

  • I am sorry to hear about the job loss, will you be able to collect unemployment at least until you can figure something out?      I would love to travel if I had the means and ample time to do it, but I would be worried about running out of money if I didn't have any funds coming in.   But if you are able to do it now without running up credit, definitely try to do some traveling now if you can as it might also be a good networking opportunity for finding something new!

For the siggy code, this is what I use to resize mine, but you need to remove the * in the front and you can adust the 120 up and down to make it bigger/smaller as needed:

  • Thanks ladies (for both the pic compliments and the advice!). I didn't get a very good severance package (my company sucks) and I still have to file for unemployment. I guess by travel, I mean teaching English in a different country or going to grad school abroad . . . if I were just going to take off, I'd definitely run out of $. We'll see what happens. It's been a longtime dream of mine to go to grad school in the UK, so I think I'll apply for that (as well as for jobs) and see what comes along first. Gah!

On the bright side, looks like my siggy is finally working :). Guess TN just needed to "think" overnight.

  • You look awesome in your dress. Sorry about the job. Hope that things get better soon for you.

  • I am praying for you that you and hubby will be taken care of.

Sorry, I hate to take sides but practical, pesky husband has a point. Traveling would be the worse thing right about now. Hopefully, you have that money for traveling saved up so you can live as you did when you were working. There is something out there for you and when you do find it you will have no choice but to celebrate with a little trip for yourself.

(BTW- this is the sucky thing about being an adult is having to do the "practical" thing. smh.)
