Open House House Warming Party

Hi! I'm having a house warming party this weekend and I still can't decide on the food. I don't want to do too much, as we only invited 30 people and only a few have responded they would be coming. I still need some ideas though.

So far, I have:

Bitesized tacos (I can't remember exactly what they're called, but their not really tacos, but taco-like. Very tasty and always a hit)

Cucumber sandwiches

Mini quiche

Cookies from a local bakery (No time to cook my own)

Any other suggestions? I've never hosted a real party, so ideas are very welcome!!

Re: Open House House Warming Party

  • We had our housewarming party back in the fall. Here's my recap.

I also did a recap of our Christmas party (recap is at the bottom of the post). Some of the menu stayed the same, but for the "main course" food I ordered big sandwiches and I also made a pan of mac and cheese.

  • Just my opinion but thought of mini tacos and quiches together doesnt sound too great.  Unless you were maybe using chorizo sausage and green peppers.  I do love mini tacos though so maybe lean toward more of a mexican or southwest theme.  I think this Taco Pie sounds much better than a quiche and looks fairly easy.  You could do chips/salsa/guac and a taco salad.

I like the pp's menu and think many of her items would work ~the buffalo dip, southwest eggrolls, veggie platter.

  • You have 3 appetizers and one dessert...if you want to keep to appetizers that's fine, but add about 3 more...

Or you can add a main and 2 sides

and at least one other dessert.

And I"m hoping you can find things to bring this menu together a little more

I'm thinking chips/salsa, pasta salad, chicken nugget platter, and brownies

  • You could do a 7-layer taco dip to tie in the mini tacos and I'd skip the cucumber sandwiches. Set up a mini sandwich bar instead with ham, turkey, and slice cheeses instead. Also, you can't go wrong with a veg. tray and dips.
Sorry that most of my jokes are borderline inappropriate. And by sorry, I mean you're welcome. Cait_S
  • My Fiance' and I attended a housewarming party with build-your-own salads. It went over great! They had a big bowl of salad base (lettuces) and from there lots of other ingredients you could add, just like a salad bar. Some of the ingredients were: green, red, yellow, and orange bell pepper strips, sunflower seeds, chicken, steak, cucumbers, onions, cheese, boiled egg, shrimp, broccoli, dried cranberries, sliced/blanched almonds, fresh spinach, shaved carrots, etc. They also had several different kinds of dressings to satisfy every taste, and in addition to the salad, they had a cheese/crackers tray and a fruit tray with dip. I had a Mary Kay party and did the same thing, and again it was an absolute hit! :) VERY simple and easy, and it works very well! Everyone loved that they could customize their salads to their own tastes, so it was guaranteed that everyone would love their food. This idea is also vegetarian-friendly in case you have a friend or two that has ethical or medical issues with eating meat.
