Need ideas for dense shade shrub
A corner of my yard is blocked by a 6 foot fence on one side, the neighbors tall shed on the other side and a big 'ol tree above. It gets sun from just about 8am to 10am, then gradually loses light and from about noon on the whole corner is shaded totally.
I would like 3 big/tall shrubs for the innermost part of the corner. Then I figure I can fill in the front with some combo of Hosta/Coral Bells/Hellebore/Astilbe, etc. because the front sees sun longer than the back.
Any recommendations? I'm in Long Island- Zone 6/7/7A, soil is good and drainage is good.

Re: Need ideas for dense shade shrub
I think evergreen huckleberry would meet those requirements. You're at the bottom of the range, so you might want to ask someone local.

Or maybe a red twig dogwood?

Or are you looking for something more tree-like?
I'm looking at shade shrubs right now too, but I think I want something tree-like.

Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman
Aucuba, Enkianthus, Sarcococca, Taxus, Ligustrum, Cedrus, Azalea... many options.
Even Yucca is excellent in full shade. It will not bloom, but otherwise, it performs perfectly.
Rhodos, camellias, mountain laurel, and pieris.
I planted arborvitae green giants in full shade and they are slowly growing. I'm trying to block out the lot next door.
