Oh ***, I may have just lost $400. Flex acct knowledgeable people, please come in.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck

I have a daycare flex account and a health savings flex account from my old job.

I had $400 in daycare and $30 in health savings.

I submitted a claim for the $400 and they denied it. I just pulled it up online and it looks like the account got drained on 3/23, which is one month after my last day at that job.

When I looked at it two weeks ago before I submitted my claim, it was all there. Now it's gone.

Do you only have 30 days after you leave a job to submit claims? I stupidly just assumed I had until the end of the year for them (which for that company is June 30th).

Am I just out my money? Any form of recourse or am I just a big ole ass here?

I AM SO PISSED!!

eta: I just called and they're of course closed for the day. damn time differences!

  • I think you are probably out the money.  This happened to floyd last year, but I don't remember the outcome.

  • I can look for you when I get home - I remember when DH got laid off I had to submit a claim to pull out the childcare $$, but I don't recall there being a deadline.
  • Don't know if this helps - google is pulling up some stuff for me (I know you didn't lose your job):

And the funds were already withdrawn and sitting in the account.

I remember when it happened to Floyd, so I submitted it so I wouldn't forget before July 1.

Money is so tight this makes me really really sad.

  • I used to administer flex accounts. It depends, some companies will put in a deadline, say 30 days after last day worked. Some companies will give you until the end of the year. It just depends on how the plan document reads. Keep this in mind, though, you can only get reimbursed for receipts that were incurred before your last day worked. That may have been why your daycare claims were denied. Hope this helps! Be sure to call your old insurance administrator tomorrow!

yeah, I made sure that the dates requested were dates from when I was working. I will definitely call tomorrow. I'm really quite sad. I know $400 is a drop in the bucket to some here, but this is really a crappy thing for us.

  • I completely understand. Did they tell you the reason for the denied claim? If you sent in correct dates, then I can't see how it was denied. It's your money and you are entitled to it. I would file an appeal. Most plans give you time to make an appeal, around 30 days. Tell them you want to know te reason for the denied claim and if the reason it not sufficient, then tell them you want to make an appeal and ask ten to reconsider. This happened to me on a weekly basis, when I processed claims, and would do anything in my power to get the participant their money.
