We had a contractor come out to our house to perform some maintenance. We'd used the company before for the same service and had a great experience, so didn't get a written quote. That was stupid on our part.
We asked them to pressure wash our normal sized house. It took three trips over the course of a month. They charged us for eight hours of work. Only half the house was washed. The bill was more than twice what we expected ($650) and have paid in the past for a simular serve performed on time and correctly. Damage was caused. We're either going to have to finish the job ourselves or hire yet another worker.
The contractor has admitted the job went poorly and wants to know what it will take to make us happy. WWMLD, because at this point, I have no idea and am beyond tired of dealing with it.
Re: What's fair?
"normal sized house" doesn't mean much. Normal to you could mean 3000 sq ft and normal to me could mean 1000 sq ft. Anyway.
they messed it up, caused damage, did HALF the job, creating more work and took a month to do it? That bill better *poof* disappear and in return, I wont file complaint with the BBB, the state and the licensing agency.
H owns a business, sometimes we eff up and eat the cost so as not to piss people off. It's what a good business owner does.
My H an I own a company and if he admitted that we didn't do a great job we would eat the cost and make the appropriate repairs to make you whole again. You need to talk to them and explain how unhappy you are and like the pp said you need to threaten further action.
Also, my H used to do power washing and even for a large house we never billed anywhere close to that price.
and, to be on the safe side DOCUMENT DOCUMENT DOCUMENT. Take pictures of the damages, get estimates on what it will cost to fix the whole thing. Any written correspondence in which the company admits to not doing a good job.
Well, it's good to know we're not totally off base! We were going to maybe offer to pay half. FWIW, the house is 2,600 square feet, totally normal Colonial house - no walkout basement or weird elevations.
I wish he would just offer to take an amount off. Playing let's make a deal is not my style. I'd get so much more done around the house of prices were flat and posted for this stuff.
Before you offer up ANYTHING,you need to figure out how in the hell much damage they caused and what it will cost you to fix their mess up.
Tell him you'll get back to him after you've assessed all the damage they've caused.
