First full day, c-section first thing this morning. I have been in many surgeries and been fine, but I wasn't standing right next to the surgeon handing him tools and enjoying the lovely mixture of smells. I think the combination of my nerves, my already queasy stomach, not eating (which I knew better), and the smell of burning flesh put me over the edge. So I had to sit down, then leave the room to throw up.
Thankfully everyone was really nice, and kept assuring me that this happens to everyone at least once. The doctor kept asking me to go take a pregnancy test and giggling all day, and the nurses said I won't live this down until the next person does it.
Heres hoping I can redeem myself tomorrow, or at least keep my pride somewhat intact.
Re: Well, I made quite the impression at my new job....
Well, you've made an impression at least ;-)
Remind me not to have a kid again soon.At least you didn't drop a baby?
This is why I'd never make it as a nurse. I can't do ^^ what you just typed. Just reading it makes me nauseous.
Im sorry you threw up.
I'm sorry
And I do think most doctors go through this too, even if they don't want to admit it.
Is there a chance you are pg? I mean everything you mentioned would be enough to make me throw up too, but I thought i would ask anyway.
I was standing there (before I had to run out of the room) thinking, "well, this just settled the vaginal birth vs. c-section debate for me". LOL
You can't win the lottery if you don't play. So..... no
Burning flesh? I've had a c-section and I had no idea! I was out for it though...
My friend has been an L&D nurse for 10 years. She just delivered her first baby alone, with a student present, bc the doctor didn't believe her that it was imminent. She puked afterwards.
They have to cauterize the bleeders.
Oh yeah, I was in a delivery today where the doc didn't make it. 5 cm to baby out in 37 minutes. It was a crazy day....
This is exactly what I was just thinking.
Where did the time go?
LOL, I am glad my throwing up can make you guys nostalgic.
It did go fast. I felt like I blinked and I was graduating with an almost three year old at home.
Oh man i am having a section and could haved lived my whole life without knowing my flesh would burn. Waaaaah
I am glad they were all nice!
omg, this is hilarious and terrible.
when my sister had her baby in march i sorta had the same combo as you going on. adrenaline, didn't eat much that day, it was past midnight and i hadn't had anything but caffeine to drink all day.
i was watching her push and i put her leg back in the stirrup. and then passed out.
LP, I don't! I don't know why, but I have been majorly sucking with my camera lately. I need to get some new pictures of her.
Eddy, I am sorry. I should have described it in nicer terms. It is normal, and they do it in every surgery.
OMG, Sara, I love you for this story and I am cracking up right now.
new job!!!
i'm focused on that part.
congrats on the 1st day....
atleast they were nice
