NDR: Fifty Shades of Grey...anyone?

Is anyone reading it or already read it? I just started the 2nd one. Thoughts? I am bored of all of the physical parts. They were okay the first few times, but now it's too much and kind of boring. I am very curious to learn what Christian's deal is, though.

Yup. I had no idea it was based off of Twilight until after I started it and read that online. I didn't figure it out on my own, so I guess it's not really like Twilight.  It's a guilty pleasure, what can I say. Candy for the brain is good every once and awhile.

  • I haven't read it yet but I have several friends who read and loved it. I think I'm going to wait until our pool opens in two weeks and I take a day off work to lounge with some hot reads and cool drinks.

  • I just bought it recently and am only on like page 50.. but I could see your point of being a little bored eventually.

  • I finished the first book in one day, then immediately downloaded the 2nd book and started it.  I'm kind of skimmimg thru all the hot set parts - I really want to know what the heck happened to Christian. I also choked when he reveals his salary (WTF?).

I am glad the book is on my Ipad so people don't know what I am reading.

  • I have 3 friends that are raving about it. My GF has a copy and I might steal it just to see what all the hype is.  She's not one to rave about anything, so my curiosity got the best of me.
  • The idea of sitting by the pool on a hot summer day reading sounds so nice right now. It is def one of those books you cannot put down. Yea, it's sleazy, but it's fun.  I started it at 10 one night and found myself still up reading it at 2am. I couldn't put it down. It's been awhile since I found a book that I couldn't put down. I started skimming over all of the sex parts, too.  They have a hot sex life. Yea, we get it....now move onto Christian.  Haha.

  • I just finished it. I can't say I loved it. I hated the ending. Absolutely hated. Now I have to pick up the 2nd one just to see how things turn out.

Oh yea, the ending sucked. She made it so you HAD to get the 2nd one b/c there was no way that ending would leave anyone satisfied.  I actually didn't even consider that that was the end b/c I knew I was going to read the 2nd one. I must say that if they do the movie, they better have someone REALLY hot play Christian b/c I don't know many women who would put up with his *** unless he was really hot...lol.

I am contemplating buying the 3rd one. I feel like I am skimming so much and don't want to spend another $10 to download it, but I need to know what happens.  This all could have easily been in one book if she let out most of the physical parts.

I've read it and I don't get the Twilight connection at all.  I did read them a while back, before they became super popular and I really enjoyed the story.  The sex stuff kind of tapers off a bit with each book, if that's what you were asking.

  • I just ordered the series yesterday, we're going to Vegas in a few weeks and they sound like they'll be the perfect pool read.

The ending of the first book is a key factor in the other two books.  I never considered reading just one.  It's really just one complete story, spread out over 3 books.

You know, I don't think it was based on Twilight. I think the author posted stories she wrote on a Twilight fanfiction site or something like that and that's why people connect it to Twilight (?). I did think that Christian kinda reminded me of Edward at the beginning of Twilight (I only saw the 1st two movies and didn't read any of the books), but not to the point where I thought it was based on Twilight.  Good to hear the sex tapers off. I am really enjoying the story.

I also think though that really getting into the specifics and details of the sex at the beginning is part of the whole story.  I think the storyline would be flat and lacking without it.  Just how it sets the stage for how f----d up he is and how inexperienced and naive she is.

  • I'm about halfway through the first book. I have a friend who is really into that lifestyle (she's a sub) and she has a private blog about it. Granted, she is into WAY heavier sh!t than the books seem to be so far, but it's been kind of interesting for me to read it because of her. I am definitely hanging in there so I can find out what happened to Christian.

Aside from there being no plot and crappy writing, I'm enjoying the mindless read.

  • I just started the 3rd book yesterday and I'm actually really enjoying the series so far.  It's poorly written and kind of flat, but it's entertaining.  It'd definitely be a good pool read.

My picks for casting if they go through with the movie would be Alexander Skarsgard or Ryan Gosling.  They could both pull off a very hot Christian Grey.

My vote is for Ian Somerhalder:

  • I'm normally a lurker, but I had to post my two cents.  I read this book and I'm ashamed to admit it.  It was awful.  The main character is the most naive womanchild I've ever heard of and "Christian" has absolutely no redeeming qualities other than being "super hot" and mega rich.  I just don't understand how so many intelligent women are fawning over this piece of garbage.  There are so many other racy/smutty books out there that have intelligent writing and interesting plots.  I just don't get it.  Also, I did some research.  This series was originally written as Twilight fanfiction under the name "Master of the Universe".  Ana and Christian were Bella and Edward in the original.  She changed the names of the characters and changed his eye color from green to grey, but everything else is the same.  It seems suspiciously close to plagiarism if you ask me.

Yea, but we don't know about them.  This book has been all over the news, so our curiosities get the best of us.   Yea, the writing is bad, but I need to know Christian's background now that I've invested time.  Nothing wrong with a little "fun" reading every now and then.

Also, I don't get this whole fan fiction stuff. I never knew it even existed.
