I was outside playing with my son, and there were two little girls (8 yrs old?) playing on the sidewalk in front of my house. They crossed the street and were headed away from me, when another little boy (same age) rode his bike past them and called them the n word. The one girl called after him and said You can't call us that, you have to say black american. That's crazy!' Then the two girls went running after him and they went around the corner.
I couldn't believe what I'd just heard. They came around the corner again, and he was riding fairly far ahead of them, and called back and called them black b!tches. I yelled hey at him, but he rode away. One of our closer neighbors told me what his name was and where he lived. So, I went to his house and told his parents what he had said. So awkward.
Re: Had to talk to a neighborhood kid's parents today.
Sadly, I'd assume that the child picked it up FROM the parents.
What did they say?
what did the parents say
usually kids learn that crap from their parents
Good for you.
I agree that kids do learn these things from their parents, but I'm hoping against hope that he's just being a d!ck and acting out. In a terrible way.
Good for those girls telling him off, too!
Yeah, I was nervous talking to them because I figured that's where he had picked it up from. Also, the neighbor who told me where he lived and what his name was said "ohhh, that's X. Good luck."
They were in the back yard, so I just told them what happened. The mom seemed surprised, then told the dad 'you're going to have to do something with your son, because he won't do a thing I tell him to.' Then she told me thanks for coming and telling them. It actually went very calmly. Of course, I don't know what happened after, but the dad called the kid right over to him.
