She's the director of nursing for a long-term care/short-term rehab facility. They've been working on a big music therapy project for their residents (chiefly the ones with dementia) in tandem with a non-profit group called Music & Memory. So now that group is making a documentary, which will (probably!) air on HBO at some point.
And my mom is in it.
Well, not really in it, because it's really about the residents, not the staff. But they wanted a nurse to "do nursey things" (lol) so they grabbed my mom, strapped a giant camera to her back, and sent her around to talk to patients. They also interviewed her a bit, but she didn't think that footage would actually be part of the documentary. Anyway, I think the whole thing is just SO COOL.
*POOF*
That whole camera contraption is strapped to her back. The straps are hidden underneath her coat (which is cut open in the back).
She said the weirdest part was walking around and feeling totally top-heavy. And she had to practically get down on her knees to get through doorways, LOL.
Re: My mom gets to do the coolest stuff. (WBCIIY)
Oh, she totally is. She would fit right in around here.
Not that I would ever dream of telling her about this place, LOL.

I'd love to hear about the music therapy project....or maybe I'll wait to watch the documentary.
When my grandfather was in the hospital, unable to recognize or remember who anybody was or where he was, I would visit him everyday and play his favorite music on my iPad for hours. I am convinced that the music and people holding his hand got him through it.
The group they're working with is www.musicandmemory.org
