neti pot alternatives?

DUDE.  I have an awful sinus headache that's been going on since Sunday.  I've tried a steamy shower, using heat to relieve the pain.  applying pressure... but nothing is getting rid of it.

I pulled out the neti pot this morning and managed to get through a bit of it, but then started dry heaving and had to stop.  My nasal passages are sore still.  (Note, this is not a typical response for me)

What else can I do to fix my head??  I'll give 4 million nest dollars to whomever can help me.

  • I cant do the Neti pot but I do use saline spray and I think it helps some.

  • I second the saline spray. It was the only thing that brought me relief when I had one.

I'm sorry, sinus infections are the WORST.

  • That blows.  I'm no help.

I'm scared of Neti pots since that House episode where the patient got some sort of disease from it and almost died.

  • I get sick whenever I spray anything up my nose.  The thing that helped me most with my last sinus headache was mucinex.  It loosened everything up so the pressure went away.

  • Anti-inflammatory, such as ibuprofen, lots of water and saline spray is the non Rx remedy. I get a lot of sinus infections and my dad is an allergist and deals with those a lot!

  • Agreed on the saline spray.  That is the only stuff that saves my life when I'm super congested/sinus headache and pressure.

Always be yourself. Unless you suck.
  • Ah.  I guess I'll pull out the saline spray.

  • Have you tried blowing your nose?

I kid, I kid.  I can't do the Neti Pot.  It grosses me out, and the water always comes out of my eyes or gets stuck in my ears.  I'm  a sudafed and advil kind of girl.

    Feel better!

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

Oh, I totally have even tried the farmer blow while in the shower hahahahahahaha. NOTHING IS MOVING IN THERE.

I think I freaked myself out because I read that article in the fall where 2 people died because they didn't have clean water and introduced bacterium into their sinuses.  I boiled my water first and everything, but I am still freaked the eff out about the neti pot after the article.
