Who are you and where did you come from?  LOL I've been gone for a few business trips so I'm not sure if I missed and introduction or not. I see you're a fellow engineer.  What kind?  What do you do?

And you just built a house?  How was that experience?

Re: *John*

  • Thanks for the question.  Didn't know people did intro's!

I'm a mechanical engineer.  I'm working on a master's in Aerospace from USC, I've got 3 courses left.  My wife and I live in South Jersey, although I'm originally from the Scranton area.  We have a 15 month old daughter.  We're on our second home.  We built it in 2010.  It was a Ryan Home model.  We started blogging about our home projects in July of 2011.

The build when surprisingly smooth.  Our project manager and salesperson were great.  We love our home and our neighbors.

I'm big on carpentry projects.  I built our kitchen cabinets in our first home from scratch.  We're adding raised panel wainscotting in our dining room at the moment.

Fun stuff.  I started posting in D&R because I like talking about projects.  I certainly don't know everything, but I pretend to.  ;)

  • It's not required at all but it's common to do an intro when you start posting a lot.

I'm an ME too!  Mechanical is such a broad range of fields isn't it?  I design HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) systems for large, complex buildings.  We're solely an engineering firm so we can pick the unique and challenging projects unlike A&E firms who's architects pick the projects.  Right now I'm working on a new 1 million sf pharmaceutical campus that is going to cost $1 billion and finishing up a state-of-the-art laboratory facility for the government.

Congrats on almost being done!  What are you plans once you have your degree?  All of the aerospace engineers I know work for the military, worked for NASA, or designed satellites.

Glad the house building process went smoothly I wasn't sure if you built it yourself or not.  You never know with DIYers.  ; )  That's really cool that you built your own cabinets!  We planning to build some for our new walk-in closet but we're going to have help.  Both my dad and FIL are carpenters along with our neighbor (who is a close friend of my family) and a co-worker.  Comes in very handy!  My FIL is recently retired and lives only 5 minutes away so he's over all of the time helping out.
