The 5-12 year old girls' fashion is horrid.
Everything is gaudy - there are neon animal prints, rhinestones, assymetrical hems and cheesy sayings on everything.
The toddler girl stuff, in contrast, is really cute.
WTF?
Re: The 5-12 year old girls' fashion is horrid.
I agree!
I am trying to find some clothes for the kids to wear for photos in a couple of weeks. We have a session in our photog's studio. You can see her work here - she is AH-MAZING. (www.jennygironda.com)
So I am thinking one of these for DD?

Or

ETA I like this too:

What about for DS? Any ideas? Do these dresses work, you think?
I like the last one. The other two are more blah (and my daughter would hate them, so I'm biased).
Oh, I love #3, and #1 is cute.
if you do #3, you could find a gingham shirt for DS, either the same red/orange, or a blue.
Also, Crazy 8 usually has some reasonably cute stuff that isn't covered in glitter.

I totally agree! I haven't been able to find anything at Target for DD since she moved to a size 5 and it's really bumming me out.
How adorable is this?? http://www.crazy8.com/shop/dept_item.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524445995378&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302775445&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395917465&bmUID=1336054634668&productSizeSelected=0&fit_type=
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted and used against you. My Blog
Brands that I like that aren't fug for that age group: Gap Kids (shop the outlet or sale items), Peek Aren't You Curious (sale as well), Mini Boden (sale), Target, Crazy 8s, Children Store.
Do you have a nordstrom's rack near you?
No. I have Target, Children's Place, Gymboree, Gap kids, H&M and the Gap Kids outlet.
i've noticed this problem too. i couldn't figure out if this was a problem with mistranslation of the return to the 80s look that it's now, or just the overall societal problem of providing hooker clothing for young girls because we're apparently 2 steps away from some godawful biblical soddom and gommorah shiit.
anyway, i was in H&M the other day and, while it would require some digging past the bedazzled nonsense and FREAKING DAISY DUKE SHORTS, i saw some cute stuff for that age range. peter pan collars, sweet ruffled skirts, etc.
ETA: and i will say this for ol' leatherface ralph lauren, his girls' clothing is usually quite tasteful (though preppy, which i like sometimes). i find a ton of RL stuff for kids at marshall's. please tell me you have marshall's.
2 or 3.
You could do a cardi with either and that would be cute too.
We have Marshall's and TJ Maxx. Hit or miss in this age group. But I can look there. I do buy her a bunch of stuff from H&M - I was swooning over the Peter Pan collars too!
dress #3 (the orange/peach with white dots). DS in white/blue/yellow/green polo with navy/khaki shorts.
walla.
I tend to dress DS in blue, because it makes his eyes pop.
i do the same for L. and i put her in a ton of yellow and orange for the same reason. like a nice cobalt polo with navy shorts? i die for your little man.
and i love how fresh orange and white and blue look together. as a unit, your kids will be so springy! because you're totally doing it my way! ha.
ha. I like orange and blue together too.
Cobalt would be great.
YES! Actually, I just loaded up on shorts and tee shirts there a couple of weeks ago. I love that place.
I wish I could stomach TJ Maxx and Marshalls. People are always finding great deals there. I just ... can't. The mess, the lighting, I don't know what it is. I think it's the mess. I feel that way about most Macys stores, too. MESS! CLOTHES ON THE FLOOR! SO MANY CLOTHES!
DD is entering the size 5 range and I wanted to cry when I walked into that section. And she picks up this glittery shortass skirt and she loves; too bad she didn't get to take that thing home. she barely has any summer clothes right now.
I will probably have to buy some stuff online or we will take a roadtrip since our clothing stores around these parts are quite limited - target, kohls, walmart, jcpenney, bon-ton and sears.
