If a guy asks you

if he can buy you a drink with no strings attached, what would you take that to mean?

Background:  Said guy is an old neighbor of mine growing up and is also friends with my ex BF.  I'm actually dating someone right now, so I'm probably going to just say no, but I'm wondering if he just meant a drink to catch up or if the "no strings" refers to sex.  I have no clue how to respond.

Re: If a guy asks you

  • There was a man that would do this for me every time he saw me out when I was in college. It means that he doesn't expect anything in return. In my case, he was a nice man and enjoyed doing things for people. He would also treat all my friends, too.

  • I think it depends on the context. It could either mean that he just wants to hang out - no expectation and not a date. Or it could mean he wants to hook up nsa.
  • Seeing as how he's an old neighbor and a friend with your ex, I'm guessing it's just a catch-up session.

I'd probably go, regardless of whether or not I was dating someone.  I like drinks.  I like catching up. And it doesn't sound like a date.  The second I got the impression that something more was afoot, I'd scram.

I think you're over-thinking this.  He just sounds friendly.

See?  Go!  I am 99.4% sure that it will be a lovely, innocent time!  And if it's not, you can totally come here and flame me afterward.
