how to crochet book

Can anyone recommend a book on learning to crochet for beginners?  Unfortunately there are no classes or lessons around me that I have found.  Thank you!

Re: how to crochet book

  • When I started out I just hit up the library for a bunch of different books.  They might have videos too (I borrowed those to learn knitting).  YouTube is also very helpful for learning different stitches.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Have you tried youtube?  That's how I taught myself to knit.  There are some great videos that will show you how.

I own THIS book that I like a lot and the beginning pages show you how to do all the basic stitches.  It also shows how to combine basic stitches to make pretty things. Smile

  • I used the Klutz How to Crochet book and it was pretty easy to pick up!

When I wasn't quite sure, I used youtube, but I found the book very helpful (and it comes with everything you need to get started!)

  • Thanks everyone!  I hadn't thought of using youtube but I'll check that out too.

Can you just look to see what your local library has?  I feel crafting books get so expensive and I rarely use them after I buy them.

  • I learned to knit using The Knitter's Bible, which I liked, and I know they have a crochet version. For crochet, I had a friend teach me chain and single crochet, and the rest I searched on the internet. There is some pretty helpful stuff out there. I've also seen a lot of crocheting kits, with multiple hooks, accessories, and a beginner's crochet book. I picked one up for the hooks and the patterns and the book was helpful.
