BF and I are discussing summer vacation plans and having some very different ideas on what we want to do. We both agree that it will be budget-friendly since we have other savings priorities.
Scenario 1: Rent a condo for a few days at the beach. Said beach is about 1.5 hours away by car and a popular destination in the summer months. Activities will include lounging around and having the sex. Pros: Relaxation. Cons: One of us gets bored at the beach. Also, bathing suits.
Scenario 2: Stay at a B&B in the mountains for a few days. Said mountains are about 4 hours away by car and a popular destination in the autumn months. Activities will include hiking, rafting, and having the sex. Pros: Solitude. Cons: Air conditioning may not be available.
Scenario 3: Stay in a hotel in a city we've never been to before and be tourists. Said city is about 5 hours away. Activities will include sightseeing, shopping, and having the sex. Pros: Lots of things to keep us occupied. Cons: Cities are hot-as-balls during the summer. Also, one of us likes to shop a little too much.
Scenario 4: Fook it, let's spend the money on a good vacation. An all-inclusive in Mexico sounds about right.
Re: Make a decision for us
Personally I like scenario 2 but only on the condition that a little more digging to find a place to stay with A/C. I mean, what kind of B&B isn't even going to have a window unit? Do you really expect to get a comfy mattress and good breakfast there too?
I think #1 is my second choice. Getting bored at the beach is lame when there are books to read, board games to play, walks to take, and movies to watch. The bathing suit issue is meh to me. There will be oodles of eye-poppingly fugly people there strutting their stuff, trust.
I like option 4 personally, but it's the kind of thing I will never evah evah be able to actually do.
More seriously, #2. I love the mountains in the summer and I don't like tourists. Even if I am one at the time.
Virginia mountains - and we haven't ruled out West Virginia. We're not planning on bringing the pups since we need a vacay from them too. Is that awful to admit?
No, I completely understand.
I vote #1. As someone who grew up on the coast, I'll confirm that Fuss is 100% correct about the fugly people on the beach. Women that don't know they don't belong in bikinis, hairy men without shirts...all are much more distracting than people who feel less than comfortable in completely body-appropriate swim attire.
Also, I love seafood. Being at the beach means there's got to be seafood somewhere nearby.
It adds a con (expense). It wasn't a serious option, but I felt like I needed a fourth.
How long is this vacation? A long weekend? A week?
2 is my vote, although I would consider 3 if it's just a 4 day weekend.
I guess a long weekend. We'll probably go for 4-5 days. Enough time to feel like we've had time to decompress, but not so long that we've paid our dog sitter's college tuition.
You're so smart broc! Also, because you picked the option I want. ::Gives emu eye to people who picked #2.::
We just did a not that expensive all inclusive in mexico that I'm happy to suggest
: )
I would want to go to the beach and DH would want to go to the mountains. I don't like being around people on vacation so mountains would win.
I would say #1. If one gets bored of laying out and reading, go for a walk. Get a drink. Bring crossword puzzles, sudoku, cards, any other nerdy thing you can do together while enjoying gorgeous weather. Bring a frisbee!
Emu eye away. The beach with nothing else to do makes me miserable. I want to claw my eyes out.
Silly Bowies. It was more than obvious in your OP whose preferences were whose.
What I'm really saying above is, you pick Option #2 on the cheap to make BF happy this time around, then next time you'll have more leverage to go for #4 when money is perhaps less of an issue.
It's called delayed gratification. Try tenting your fingers, hunching over and whispering, "Yessssss.... I'll biiiiiide my tiiiiiiiiime......" It's great fun.
I'm not a beach person myself. I'd rather do ANYTHING else.
THIS!
LOL. I've already been heading down this road. I like the beach in the summer because it's basically mandatory lazy time (and Lord knows, I'm lazy). I figure if I can stipulate a pool into the bargain, we'll both be happy and I can still dictate a future flashy trip that involves copious amounts of baguettes and cheese.
1. I love the beach. Probably way too much. Also, most popular destinations have nearby tourist-y cities to go shopping or wander around if there's a crap weather day or one of you gets bored.
Also, I LOLd that you included "having the sex" in every option. I think I'm slap happy today, because I seriously giggled out loud each time I read it like a twelve year old.
Except Mexico. No sex in Mexico.
