shaving...

DH prefers me shaven, but I always get bumps, razor burn, and ingrown hairs. Any suggestions on how to prevent all of this?  I've thought about waxing but it seems to be too expensive (and painful) to use on a regular basis.

Re: shaving...

  • you are not alone! ive tried just about everything.... ive been told i should try "sugaring" havent tried it but am seriously considering it! im so sick of the razor burn!
  • For me it took a long time to get it so it's not a problem. I use bikini zone to shave, plus I do it at the end of the shower and run hot water in that area. I also put anti bacterial cream on it once I get out is the shower I should add I don't use a dual blade and at first I did it pretty frequent. I will say I do it every 2 days now
  • I use an electric trimmer, my DH shaver came with an extra mini trimmer. I stole it :)

I prefer DH shaven too. But if he won't have it, why should I?

  • I use a rash free shave cream designed specifically for the bikini area, Coochy. Pure Romance sells it, along with some other places.

  • I've found waxing to be WAY less irritating than shaving.  Plus it lasts so much longer, and when the hair does grow back, it's softer because it doesn't have sharp ends from being cut by a razor, so you don't get that stubbly feeling as much.  Love it.

I don't sell any of that stuff but I love the product! (coochy)

  • Laser! Love it. I've had 6 treatments so far and the hair barely grows back. Its been around 5 months since my last treatment and I have likely 2 more to go. Yes, its expensive but so worth it. Watch for groupons or local deals. My place does $99 treatment special in August - $99 for one session on any area. Typically up to 8 sessions per area required.

    LOL, same here

  • I have the same problem, try Tend Skin. You can get it at your local pharmacy or order it on Amazon. It seriously has done wonders for me! I even suggested it to all my girlfriends and they have all said the same thing. Seriously, try it!
  • You should switch to a Schick razor and use tend skin, does wonders

Ditto this.  with shaving i always got itchy.  Never with waxing.  i go where they have an unlimited wax pass for 12 months.  pay upfront and don't have to worry with it. i also get Tend Skin (amazon). it helps with bumps and ingrowns.

I've heard this too. I'm going to try waxing for my first time, hopefully this month. I'll let you know how it goes! (: Plus the extra cost shouldn't be too much considering how long it would take for the hair to grow back

I wouldn't put up with that! LOL but just today SO told me he likes me hairy or shaven, either way. I haven't shaven since LO was born 4 weeks ago so I can't wait to get my first wax (:

My SO shaves but I prefer that he has at least a little hair down there. I mostly just want his shaft to be shaven otherwise the hair irritates me when we get intimate, so that is what I tell him and that's why he started shaving in the first place! Try telling him that.

I would suggest sugaring! I practiced it in beauty school and it doesn't hurt near as bad as wax. In fact it doesn't even hurt at all, and it lasts longer than waxing : )

  • i have used bikini zone and coochy...both of those work good for shaving.  as far as waxing goes...i got waxed once and it wasn't as bad as you would think.  but i got the stipless hard wax which is supposed to be less painful.  they put the was on and it hardens(it also only adheres to your hairs and not your skin like stips do) and the person pulls the hairs out by the actual wax itself.  i haven't been back yet, mainly due to distance and money, but i would consider doing it again.

  • Pure Romance sells a shave cream called "Coochy" - it's amazing && works wonders. You can use it to condition your hair - it's really great! You leave it on your skin to sit there for about 3-4 minutes to let your hair folicles open up && get conditioned and then you shave it off - no bumps. No rash. No itch.
