Pushups????

Anyone have any tips? I had trouble doing them while doing Insanity and I'm having trouble doing them with Chalene Extreme. I lift weights, but I just can't lift my body. Of course, I do the girlie on-your-knees kind and I might can do one or two regular ones. Do I just need to practice?

Re: Pushups????

  • Yep, just do more of them. Particularly try to do as many regular pushups as you can before dropping down to your knees. Also try to focus on having good form on the pushups - keep your body planked flat, don't arch your back or push your butt up.
  • If you're having trouble I would try modified and then work your way up to regular.

  • Just do 'em. I did the 100 pushups plan. I was never able to get in 100 consecutive but I went from being about to do 20 to 80.

  • When I was first transitioning to toe pushups from knee pushups, my bodypump instructor suggested widening out your feet because that makes it a bit easier. Once I could do that for a few, I started moving them closer together, and now I can do them with the proper form. Just an idea :-)

  • Tons of practice and modify as needed.  "Girlie" pushups are still pushups.  Form is essential.

I did a pushup challenge for a month (5000 pushups for the month) and got MUCH better at pushups.

    This is great advice!

  • Thanks everyone! Y'know, now that I think about it, when I do the "spiderman" pushups, with my legs spread farther, I can do them better. I just need to do more- UGH!  haha!
