Do you ever put stuff on top of your cupboards

like greenery, plates, n' sh*t?

God, I have no idea what I'm doing, it looks like Antiques Roadshow/Dollar General up there.

I have plates and a couple of decorations up there, no plants or ivy though

No, I put $hit up there that I have no cabinet space for. It's very high up, even my H who's 6'6" can't see it.

  • My neighbor has this elaborate figurine situation up there, like a little city.

    I feel competitive.

  • We don't have anything decorative up there, but we do use that space to store the 12,000 George Foreman grills my husband and I have inherited from various college roommates.

  • Our cabinet tops aren't open, but my mom keeps antique tins and crocks and stuff on hers.

  • We have a sign on top of our kitchen cabinets that says 'will eat for food.' I love it, but nobody else appreciates it. Also, we keep dust up there.

    Edited to make sense.

  • i have my willow tree collection.

now i feel the need to deny that i have a willow tree collection

  • My cupboards go all the way to the ceiling, ew. I can't wait to renovate. German engineering.

I collect antique hammered copper pieces, like urns and pots etc. In our old house I used to have them up there but when I redesign this kitchen, I'm going to keep it clean.

I think stpete has illuminated top cupboards that are lovely and not cluttered.

  • No, my cabinets go to the ceiling.  If they didn't, I probably wouldn't put much up there.

  • I use those decorative storage boxes and hide a bunch of random crap that I have no place for.

  • I love Willow Tree figurines.

And, I love hammered copper pieces.  I do.

I just put some antique plates up there on stands and I think that I might put silk greenery up there.  Yes.

  • One of my cats lives up there. She only comes down when necessary.

  • Okay, BAB made me laugh.

    'No.  No, no.'

    And lol @ the devil-eyed cat.  Sh*t!

  • That cat is awesome!!

    'No.  No, no.'

    Wink

  • We have soffits, so no stuff. If we did have an up there, it would probably have teapots, coffee pots and hot beverage accoutrements. I have no idea why I have a collection of those things, but I do.

I'd love a cat who lived up there, though!

  • Cat is brilliant and no I don't.  It gets a weird filmy dust up there.  I ain't dusting every couple of days to get rid of it.

I need this in my kitchen.

My cabinets go all the way to the ceiling so no tchotchkes for me.

  • I just want to clarify that I have nothing against cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling, just mine. The crazy German who built this house had no concept of scale.

Scotty, back away from the silk plants.

  • Our cabinets go to the ceiling.  Boo.

Before I moved in with H, I had my M&M dispenser collection on the tops of my cabinets.  And now I want to deny having an M&M dispenser collection.

Why would you deny this???? M&Ms, at your fingertips, all the time! Heaven!

  • Our house is stone/brick out in the country so I have small crocks/antique ceramic jugs/old hardback recipe books from the early 1900s/a plate with a fox hunting scene...that kind of stuff up there.  I think it's just important to keep it minimal and balanced--like we have 4 main points, 1 with the fridge which looks heavy as it is, so there's a little grouping of the stuff at the other 3 points.

Sadly, they're empty.  It's such a tease.  They're now in our basement family room, which is painted to look like a s'more (marshmallow colored walls, dark chocolate trim and a one wall that has graham cracker colored wood paneling) and has pictures of chocolate desserts on the walls and the M&M dispenser collection on the ledge that runs along one wall.

    That is genius inspiration.

  • i hate cabinets that don't go to the ceiling. the wasted space drives me crazy and it's just a spot to collect dust. don't put anything up there, 99% of the time it looks tacky. kristie's boxes are the best option if you have to put something up there.

  • We have stuff on ours....Our cat also likes to make this his personal playground. This is an old picture when we first moved in (3 years ago)...and I have changed it up a bite since then but you get the picture. (I now have a wine rack up there and a few other odds and ends...the ugly bird has been removed much to my husbands' dismay)

  • I have a bunch of stuff stored on mine, but I have no choice. If I had more storage I would've just done vinyl decals on the wall and left it empty.

I agreed with you until you mentioned the boxes.
