Hi all;
I am training for my first half marathon (June 16th). Next week I am going to Vegas, just for a long weekend, and during that time I am scheduled for a 9 mile run. But honestly I have no idea how I would fit that in. It might be more a matter of me not being willing to make the sacrifices needed to fit it in. I just wish there was an easy solution where I could get it done but not have to get up super early to avoid heat, go a long ways to find a place to actually run, or use a treadmill.
Knowing this is my first half marathon and I'm a total newbie to this long-run stuff), do you think it would totally mess me up if I just skipped the long run that weekend? I was thinking maybe I would add on a few miles during my weekly runs before and after the trip to help make up for it.
I was scheduled for 7 miles last weekend. I did 7.25 and felt great - strong, not sore at all, etc. Maybe I could do 8.5 this weekend instead of the scheduled 8, then skip the next weekend, and then go from there?
Maybe I am just thinking about this too hard...but like I said, I'm a newbie. I'm nervous. I don't want to keel over during my race. Or get picked up by the bus!

I find it easier to run on vacation because DH is around to watch the kids. I take full advantage, and our last trip to Florida was my highest mileage week this year.
If you can't get it in I wouldn't stress about it though. Missing a long run or two isn't a big deal. Your plan to do 8.5 is a good one.

Thanks everyone! I will try to make my run this weekend a little longer than planned, add a couple miles in next week, and then just carry on. Unfortunately I don't have time to fit in a real long run during the week, as I work 10 hour days, have 2 little kids and I am in Grad School...but I think it will be fine to skip just one. I feel a little better now :-)
Thanks again!
