Help!! Friend has question on what to do.
I have a friend who wants to do Brown and teal in her living room, but she wants one more color to brighten it up. I do not know what to tell her. She like things to look different but not be too "wow".
Re: Help!! Friend has question on what to do.
Honestly I'd point her to Pinterest and tell her to look for pictures that appeal.
"Different" but "not too wow" doesn't convey any actual information, so I'd be hesitant to insert my preferences/style.
No, you're not hearing what I'm saying.
That she likes bright colors is useful information. But liking "out of the normal" looks, but "not so different that it is too much" is not helpful at all. It's entirely subjective.
If she said to you, I like bold colors, cottage style, linen window treatments, natural fiber rugs... that kind of information is useful and gives you an idea of what kind of things you could suggest that would fit with the look. But "unusual and different... but not too unusual and different" gives you nothing to go on, and no way to know whether what you're suggesting is headed in the direction she wants to go.
She probably doesn't know. If she did, she'd say so. But you can't figure it out for her. That's why I said you should send her to Pinterest, houzz.com, whatever, to figure out what she likes as a starting point. Then you can help her shop for things that fit what you know about her style and vision for the room.
Small doses of acid green or bright purple could brighten that scheme. One or the other not both.
My SIL has done her family room in brown teal and lots of bright white. It is very striking.
Google images is pretty awesome for this, too.

Pillows, paint, curtains, vases, paintings, rugs, throw blankets....
There's so much out there, she's got to go out and look! Pier 1, Marshall's, Pottery Barn, Target, antique shops, Etsy.....She'll never know what she wants if she doesn't look. There's only so much we can suggest without knowing a style and without pictures. If you post pictures of her room, tell us kind of what she's looking for, we can help point her in the right direction, but without that we're just as lost as she is. Why don't you tell your friend to log on here herself? No offense to you, but she'll probably be better at describing exactly what she needs help with. We love new comers!
