Deck Restore

We received a quote to stain our deck and the worker also suggested that we restore the deck. The restoration essentially looks like a thick coat put on the deck (not the railings) similar to the protection added to the lining truck beds. It's thick with a gritty texture and it is supposed to help fill cracks and cover damaged boards. I didn't think our deck was in bad condition, so I told him to hold off until I could research a little more about it.

Amazon reviews were mixed, but my biggest concern would be our heavy patio furniture, especially the chairs, sliding around on the surface. Has anyone used a similar product?

Re: Deck Restore

  • Don't do it!  That stuff looks horrible on a wood deck and is uncomfortable to walk on barefoot.  It will eventually flake off and then you have a real mess on your hands and many more years of maintenance to deal with.  Stain is easy and looks good.  You can apply and reapply without having to do near as much prep work when you paint.  I curse at the previous owners who decided to paint our deck and railing every time we have to repaint it.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the feedback :) I told him to just go ahead and stain it and not to use the restore.
