Help me decide bedroom window treatment please! PIP

I'm totally overthinking this! We recently renovated our bedroom and now I'm just trying to figure out the finishing touches. We ordered this Amish furniture in a darker finish. It will be the bed, two nightstands and the extra-wide dresser on the right w/o the mirror.

Here is the room currently, doors on the right are my closet doors:

I'd like it to feel light and airy.  TIA

  • Wow, I love the furniture! Beautiful.

Are you planning to keep the blinds under the curtains or are you looking to replace them?

I would hang something like to replace the blinds. I think it would make the window feel bigger, especially if you hang it just beyond the edges.image

  • I would replace your current blinds with 2" (faux) wood ones and then hang panels on either side of the window, but just outside the molding to give the window the illusion of being wider.  i.e., hang the panels so they mostly cover the wall and not the actual window.  The blinds will allow you to control light and privacy.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Yeah, the mini blinds were just a cheap, quick fix.

I'm glad you both said panel curtains cause I was leaning that way.  So I'm thinking either natural roman shades or faux wood blinds under white sheer panel curtains.  Would that be too neutral?

Sheer curtains wouldn't give the illusion of a larger window. You'd have to do something opaque. But just because it's not sheer doesn't mean it has to be heavy and oppressive.

No that's not too neutral.  I love that look only use a solid panel not a sheer to give the illusion of a bigger window.  My one word of advice is to try to get the blinds or roman shade in the same color as your trim and furniture otherwise it can look off.

In our new master bedroom we're going with fabric roman blinds that are relaxed in the middle (aka. curved on the bottom) with curtain panels on one or both sides.  We're going to be using natural roman blinds in other places of the house but for the master bathroom windows I want fabric to help soften the space so the master bedroom will match those.  We're having a similar color scheme as it looks like you have.  Cherry furniture (custom Amish built as well) with off white walls and a patterned rug.  Our trim will be cherry as well.  We're going for a very neutral scheme so that the beautiful wood is the star of the room.  I have a lot of bright neutral inspiration pictures here if you'd like to see them.

  • Thanks everyone!

I think I'm going to look around this weekend for natural roman shades or faux wood blinds that match the trim.  I already have sheers from IKEA like the below pic so I'll try those out and if I'm not getting the right feel, I'll look for some thicker curtains in a white/ivory color.

Please retitle this post "I've already bought sheer curtains so please agree with me that they my room will be light and airy even it shrinks my already narrow window!"

  • I would do a nice satin panel in a coordinating color. I'm not sure shears would look right with the mood of you room. Just my thoughts

The look works better in that room because they have so many windows.  In yours it would only look like that first window, which to me seems really narrow and squished.  I think we all feel like making it seem wider is a plus, which you'll only be able to do with solid panels.

But since you already have the sheers, by all means give it a shot and see if you like it!
