This does go wayyyyy back. I haven't used them in 30 years.

Is it the liquid paper sheets to use in a typewriter that they came out with when liquid paper got so messy?

Actually these came out BEFORE Liquid Paper. But you are right, they are correction tapes for manual typewriters that were used when the typewriter didn't have a correction feature.
