endometriosis questions..

cross posted this onthe infertility boards..

I'm not TTC or anything, but I feel like I have all the signs and symptoms of Endometriosis. I've been going to my gyno for chronic pelvic pain since July of last year and she found about 3 small cysts over time, but non of them were large enough to cause even the smallest amount of pain.

I called today to make an appointment with her to discuss the possibility of having Endometriosis. The lady on the phone read my file and saw I had recent ultrasounds and said that if I did have endo it would have shown up.

What symptoms lead you to the Dr? Do you agree with the woman I spoke to over the phone?

Endo does not show up on ultrasounds, the only way to get a diagnosis of endometriosis is to have a diagnostic laprascopy, where they go in with a camera and take a look at your pelvic organs. If you have multiple symptoms of endo and are dealing with chronic pain, it might be worth having a lap done. Good luck!

  • Yep this!

My doctor and myself are pretty sure I have endo but my symptoms are well controlled with birth control so I don't have any interest in a diagnostic lap.  I kind of want to go of b.c for other reasons but I'm afraid of the endo symptoms again!

ETA: that was supposed to quote the above poster :/

THIS! I have had chronic pelvic pain (even on bc) for 2 years, I went for the Lap and they found a ton of Endo and removed my cysts at the same time. I have never felt better. I had it all over my tubes, my bladder, even my intestines. They said it will grow back in 5 year +/- so I need to hurry up and decide that I want kids, then just have my lady-parts removed! Ugghhhh decisions!

False.  As the other ladies have said, endo will not show up on an ultrasound, only through a lap.  I went in because I was having chronic pain on my right side that would shoot down into my groin, down my leg, and into my back.  When they opened me up they found a mess of endo all over my uterus, bladder, bowel, colon, round ligament, uterine artery, ovaries, and down into my groin on the right side.  They cleaned up as much as they could, and then put me on continuous birth control to try and stop more future growth.

There's been a whole mess of problems for me since, and I'm facing a hysterectomy now.  If you suspect you might have endo, go get a lap and figure it out now.

  • Hi :)  Just wanted to chime in as well... I've had endo for 15 years, just had my 4th lap 2 weeks ago.  Do yourself a BIG favor- go to a specialist.  And by specialist, I mean someone who excises (cuts) the endo out, not lasers it off (it will come back).

Even if you aren't heading down the surgery path, just speaking with a specialist will benefit you.

    A good website for you - http://www.endo-resolved.com/

    Good luck, fell better :)
