I have a listening to stuff on your iPhone/ iPod in the car question

How do you do it?

We have an FM transmitter thing for the iPod and it's really annoying to find a channel that works.  But it is about 5 years old, so I'm assuming there's some better technology out there.  What do people do to hook up iWhatever to their car stereo system?

Re: I have a listening to stuff on your iPhone/ iPod in the car question

  • Dave has a cord that comes out into his glove box that his ipod is connected to.

It plays through his stereo as a regular input.

  • I have a USB port in my car that plugs directly into my iPod. DH has a line-in connection thingy that he uses. There's also blue tooth playing available...but I have yet to figure out how to do that in my Escape.
  • My car has a usb connection that I use. The music then just flows through the speakers.

H's car doesnt so he uses and auxiliary cable.

  • I still use a FM transmitter.  I did a little research a few months ago and couldn't find a better option.  The tech people need to get on this.

  • It syncs with my car using Bluetooth but if I don't want to drain my battery I have a USB cord that plugs into the input port.

  • In my car I have a little port in my sound system.

In H's car, he uses his cigarette-lighter port and an FM station.  it's not nearly as effective and can sometimes be staticky, and it doesn't work with my iPod Touch.

  • I have an auxilliary cable in the console between the seats.  I have a button called "media" that I push to get to the iPhone stuff.

  • Buy an auxiliary cord, this works the best.  The new Odyssey has a USB connection in the car, so not only does it keep my iPod charged, but I can control the songs through the regular controls.

  • my car didn't come with an AUX port, so i have the radio transmitter.  It sucks, but I've found it actually works better if you use a garbled and static-y station rather than a silent or just static-y one.
  • I have an aux jack in my car deck.
  • Check if you have an AUX outlet in your car. It looks just like the top of your ipod where you plug in the head phones. If you have that in your car you just have to buy an AUX cable, i got mine at an Apple store, and you connect it from your ipod to the outlet in your car.

If you don't have the AUX outlet then I think you're stuck using the FM transmitter. Check your manual if you're not sure if you have it.

  • We don't have an aux, so a transmitter is our only option. It's kind of crap though, so I still just burn mix CDs now and then. lol.

  • Nevermind, what I posted was just for charging. Duh. it's been a long week.

  • You can also look into having a new stereo installed that you can hook up your iPod/iPhone to. H and I have been looking into it since our car is older and doesn't have any fancy hook ups.

We've found a few nice ones for under $300.
