S/O Getting fitted for a bra
Aside from Nordstrom, where else can I go to have this done correctly?
A woman at Belk measured me once and didn't know what she was doing... she was WAY off.
Re: S/O Getting fitted for a bra
I went to Intimacy, but I think they are only in a few cities.
My understanding of bra fitting is that the best fitting doesn't use measurements, because fitting has a lot to do with shape. At Intimacy, they have you take off your bra and they stare at your boobs for a few seconds, then they go out and get you a couple of sizes in a couple of different styles to try. Then when you get the bras on, they assess the fit and then say, "yep, you are a 38D" (that's me).
I just checked Intimacy's store locator section on their website, and I don't have one of those anywhere near me either. Darn it. Thank you for the suggestion though! I really want to have this done and can't seem to find anywhere near me other than VS, JC Penney, Kohl's, etc.
I would go to VS with lots of time to spare. I would also grab someone that knows what they're doing, they may act like they know but it isn't a perfect science, it just gives you a place to start in trying them on. Everyone carries their weight differently, and depending on age and whether or not they have kids their boobs will often look different too.
A few tips that I've learned from working at VS. If you are a larger size, ask for the dream angels demi, it is crazy comfy, and super supportive for larger chested ladies. If you want volume, then I would get a push-up, they offer the most support and shaping for ladies that have lost volume from kids or age. If you don't like underwire, I would get the incredible, it does have an underwire, but it is gel-encased so it doesn't hurt but still offers support and will last.
I'm a 32D, and my absolute favorite bra is the dream angels pushup, it's cute and offers great shape and support. And I swear the lace doesn't show through clothes, I thought it would but it lays perfectly.
I know I probably sound like I'm still working, but I have a lot of faith in the company and their products. I don't work there anymore, but I refuse to get my bras anywhere else, they've always worked for me when others failed or wore out too quickly.
Do you have a Soma Intimates near you? They do a pretty decent job too. They aren't quite as awesome as Nordstrom, but not nearly as bad as VS (which, in my experience, was pretty bad).
Another option is to see if you have any local specialty lingerie boutiques. If they specialize in the stuff, they are usually pretty good.

I just checked and there's one about 30 min. away! Yay! I knew there had to be someplace nearby I didn't know about. I'll give it a shot. Thanks.
I respectfully disagree with this. VS sucks for larger breasts. I wear a 32F and the rare occasion that I'll pop in there, they try to convince me I can wear a 36C or something equally ridiculous. Uh, no.
In my opinion, it's worth the drive to a big city to hit a Nordys and get properly fitted by someone that actually knows what they are doing. I didn't have a proper fitting until I was about 27 years old and it makes a WORLD of difference.
If for some reason Soma doesn't work out for you, Von Maur does them and can be pretty good. Macy's will get fitters in from different companies about once a quarter for another option. If you ever get near a Nordstrom or Intimacy, I'd get fitted to order online in the future. I usually visit Nordstrom on vacation and can shop online after.
I'm with Bimbi on staying away from VS. They don't have a clue how to fit people who fall out of their ranges of band/cup sizes. The last SA from VS I spoke to was shocked that a G cup existed when I told her that's what I wear while she offered to fit me. I find the better brands to outlast VS by a significant amount of time. It's worth it to invest in good bras.
This would be my suggestions. There is a probably a smaller non-chain/mall lingerie shop somewhere near you.
The person at Nordstrom that measured me was quite off. I ended buying the Wacoals in a different size than the suggested and they were fine.
