Newbie with a question!

Hey all!

I just stumbled across this website, and decided to give it a shot. :-)

I'm a total Rookie when it comes to the Army life. I married my best friend August 14th of last year. He's been in almost 9 years though, and is a great navigator. He's currently away at training, so I'm learning to juggle our two month old daughter, 9 month old puppy, two cats, and my horses. Its epic. Hmm

We're gearing up for our (well my) first PCS  in a few months, and I was wondering if you had any advice for moving with a new(ish) baby and animals? I have the horse thing under control, as I've shipped them across the country mulitple times for my show career.

Everything else, however, I'm totally lost!

We're moving from VT to the Quantico, VA area (He's a recruiter, but ALMOST has his packet together for OCS, which is the ultimate goal. Yay hubby!).

Thanks!

Re: Newbie with a question!

  • Hi and welcome! I'm BLT, been married for almost 4 years, no kids, just a cat who thinks he's a child. We're dual status Army National Guard, I've spent the last 5 years active. We recently moved to PA for him to pursue a contractor gig and I now work at Starbucks(which I totally love).

Here's a link to some FAQ http://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/64990075.aspx.  Some of the girls around here have a button in their sig for our FAQ page as well.

  • PS - It's kind of slow around here on the weekends but more people will jump in later. We have a lot of west coasters.

  • Thanks so much!

This whole Army deal is just so overwhemling, which is weird because nothing ever happens quickly! It's a whole different ball-game going from GF to Wife it feels like!

  • I don't have any advice as I am new to AF life (H commissioned only 8 months ago). But I just wanted to say hi and welcome!
  • Welcome! I'm Jen. My H is AD AF and we are currently in MT with our crazy dogs and 2 cats. No kids yet. For our 2 cross country moves, we packed our cars full and did a partial DIY move. Make sure to pack stuff to survive in case its 2 weeks before you find a house or get your stuff from TMO. That includes anything your pets may need during that time. We stayed in pet friendly hotels along the way. Not sure what else you want to know, but just ask! The girls here are really helpful and have lots of knowledge!

  • Hi and welcome.  I'm TX.  I am prior service Army Reserves.  DH is AD Army.  We have 4 kids and a foster dog.

There is a button in my siggy that will lead you to the MN FAQ page.  There is a bit of info on PCS that you may find interesting.
