need a dog food rec due to TOTW recall

Our bag is part of the recall.

So now I need food ASAP any recommendations?

We have 2 dogs a 17 month old and a 6 month old.  I am looking for a one formula for both dogs because feeding separate foods is like heeding cats. Both dogs have ONLY ever eaten TOTW.  sighhh

  • I feed raw, but my recommendation for a good kibble from companies that I trust would be Acana (same company as Orijen, which is a great food too but can be rich for a lot of dogs so Acana is a great overall choise) or Fromm.  Prices will depend on your area, but there are several grain free flavors that include different proteins for each so you can choose what works for your crew.

I tried Orijen once and it gave our girl very loose stools.  I actually forgot about it until you mentioned it.  I will look into the Acana, and try a small bag to start.

I am not so concerned with Price, you get what you pay for.....  Quality is our goal.

Where did you get your raw food diet info from?  We may have to look into that angle.

    Thanks so very much!

  • Being that your dogs have always done well on TOTW, I personally would not switch them to another brand just because of the voluntary recall.  Keep in mind their statement from their website:

Although none of the products being recalled have tested positive for Salmonella, the company is pulling them from store shelves as a precaution.

So I have 2 suggestions:  One, contact TOTW as their website suggests and see how they will go about replacing your product.  For all we know, they might just have you take your bag back to the store you purchased it from to receive another bag for free.  It is worth finding out.

Second, if the store you purchased from has no bags of the dry formula on the shelves (which is what my mom ran into - her bag was part of the recall also) you could purchased the canned version of your formula, since that should still be on the shelves.  And then when the new bags of dry food come back to your store, transition your dog back to the dry food.

  • Our dogs love Acana Pacifica. We have a 5 year old lab mix and a 11 month old lab mix - we just feed the puppy a little more than the older dog.
  • Thanks Ladies for all the help, I am just now back from the feed store.

No TOTW at all, they sold out about a week ago when the distribution was halted.

They are also OUT of Acana because so many TOTW customers made the same switch.  They are expecting a shipment Monday, they will hold a bag for me.

I ended up with a bag of Innova Prime Grain free and bought some fresh chicken and I will boil it up for the girls.

    Augghhhhh!!

  • We ended up with Hi-Tek Rations Grain Free which get 4.5 star on dogfoodadvisor.com. Similarly priced to TOTW actually a bit cheaper. We go through 1 30lb bag in 2 weeks so the Orijen recommended at the pet store was just too much money. We shall see how it goes
  • We swear by Fromms for our sensitive tummy dogs. Someone on the board recommended it ages ago - it's the only thing that our girl hasn't reacted to.
