which boarding facility?

BIL was supposed to watch Mendel & Bella next weekend, but has backed out at the last minute =( I did some research on boarding facilities in our area, narrowed it down to 6 to visit and now I'm deciding b/w 2 .... help me decide pesties!

Option 1:

-A ranch owned by a vet who boards horses & dogs. When I went to visit yesterday, I was not greeted by anyone and had to ring a bell to alert someone I was there. A young girl (HS age I think) came by and acted like it was odd/an inconvenience to give me a small tour of the facility.

-Dogs are taken out to play with each other for 15minutes 4-6times/day

-large 8x4 indoor wire kennels. Our 2 dogs could share a kennel.

-Only 6 dogs were there.

concerns: staff didn't seem to care much about the dogs.

Option 2:

- A boarding facility owned by AKC certified poodle breeders. Everyone had their dog at work with them. This was the larger of the 2 facilities. Warmly greeted and immediately shown everything

-Dogs have indoor/outdoor kennels (indoor is 4/4 and can get to the 8x8 outdoor kennel via doggie door). Kennels are separated by cinder block walls and have wire door/gates.

-our dogs would not be able to share a kennel, but would be in kennels across from each other (so they can see each other) and taken out to play together.

-dogs are taken out for 15minutes 4x/day (if its too hot they will be taken out more frequently for a shorter period of time)

-concerns: dogs can not be in the same kennel

I would really like to board them somewhere where they can do doggie daycare but it is just too expensive to do that with 2 dogs ($100 total). They above options are $55 total

Re: which boarding facility?

  • I think I'd go with #2 - to me it's more important that the staff is attentive because it's more of a safety risk.

  • They both sound like good options.

I would go with #2 just for the customer service aspect of it.

I also wouldn't be concerned that they wouldn't be in the same kennel. In fact, I strongly dislike boarding two dogs in the same run/kennel. It is a new situation/circumstance, and there is too much that can go wrong, particularly with dogs who might turn on one another with misdirected aggression.

I agree. Plus, they can play together. I don't think not being able to share a kennel is a big deal.

  • Thanks ladies! #2 it is....

Sorry I did a post-and-run, getting my hair done took longer than I thought it would.

  • Late to the party, but I agree with #2
